Sherrye's Story
Life
I traveled around a lot as a kid because my dad was in the Navy, so I went to a different school every year from 6th grade through Graduation.
Needless to say, I lost track of a lot of friends over the years and was hoping this Web Site might bring back some memories.
I have lived in Houston, Texas for the past 37 years after moving here from Memphis, Tennessee in 1981.
I worked for "The Phone Company" since 1973, and retired from there after 30 years.
I have been married to my second & last husband, Jesse, for 34 years and I thank God for him every day.
In October of '06 I got asked to work part time for Ceil Tex Inc - a company that is growing in the Houston area and since then we have gone from one crew to 5 and are expanding to other parts of Texas, Louisiana, and even have one nationwide contract. We don't just clean ceiling tiles anymore, we do installation and remodeling, too. The growth is phenomenal and I hope our labor department can keep up with the sales department (I was the Vice President of Sales when introduced). It was all rather exciting even though I am still semi-retired.
I Went with a "Spin-off" company in '07 from Ceil Tex to New Ceiling Tiles, LLC. That put me in the supply aspect of the ceiling business. We sold WATER PROOF Ceiling Tiles and Rust Proof Grid. It's all made of pure PVC so it'll never stain, sag, or grow mold. It costs more to install it initially, but it should never have to be replaced, so there is great return on investment. They want to sell it to everyone in the world and put themselves out of business. They like to say, "One install, does it all!"...Expand for more
I finally retired for good in 2015. It was serendipitous because a few months later my mother had a bad fall and got a TBI. She really needs me a lot more now, so working, even from home would make that almost impossible. Plus I have been deemed disabled by the state of Texas because I can no longer do the work I was trained for.
School
I went to a different school every year from 6th through 11th grade...had enough credits so I just got out a year early and started working - sometimes I thought I should have gone to College, but what the heck - I had 30 years with the same company in 2003 and retired before I was 50!
Workplace
I worked for "Ma Bell" for 30 years and retired October, 2003. I was a directory assistance and intercept operator from 1973 to 1975, then was a Cable Repairman until 1999. That is when I got promoted to management in a training position. In 2000 I transferred to the Technician Support Center and worked with the new computers and people in the field who used them. I had lots of different responsibilities there and enjoyed the work a lot, but when they offered me extra if I retired before November 2003, I jumped on it, took the money and ran! I REALLY like being retired.
New Ceiling Tiles was a great company to work for...I also owned a small part of it. I got to take calls and teach people about the products, take their orders, and answer their questions about the relatively new types of ceiling systems. Since it was a full time job, and I got paid for it, my husband was able to retire in 2010. He now gets to sleep late after staying up late to pursue his musical ventures.
