Sheryl's Story
.
I moved from Dallas to Allen in 2007 to be near by daughter and her family. My son lives in Jacksonville, FL and I love to go to visit him. He is my best vacation partner.
I have two grandchildren, One just graduated from NTSU and started her teaching career .. teaches at Richardson High School.. My grandson attended UTD and graduated in 2020.. Life is sure different now than when I was a teenager. Would not change my age or the times I was raised in for anything. Maybe a few things.. not music!
I love to write short stories and finished almost 200 pages of my personal memoirs. I am adding to it all the time. Both my son and daughter have enjoyed reading some of the stories and have expressed thanks for writing them. When I write about myself, I am less inhibited than I would be just retelling some of these stories.
Since I have a very small family, I don't have a bunch of relatives to sit and reminisce with, so sitting down at the computer serves as a catalyst for my recall. It is amazing what you can actually remember when you try.
Early in February, 2009, I had to have my little pug put down. She was just 2 months from her 16th birthday. One week later, my daughter Lisa was feeling so sad for me, she took me to the McKinney ASPCA, as they had almost 50 dogs as part of a raid of several puppy mills in Sparta, Tennessee. The actual number was around 200, of which some went to New York, Dallas and McKinney. I went just to appease my daughter. However, I saw a little black Pug sitting in a large enclosure with another dog. She appeared to be scared to death, and was one of the last puppies to be picked. (They were exhibiting about 30 dogs at a time due to capacity.)
I stood, rooted to the spot, not able to leave her. I really had no intention of getting any dog that day as I w...Expand for more
as still very sad for the loss of my little Sushi. And, both my son and daughter had urged me to pick a different breed. So, since I am extremely independent, I picked her. She is a very small Pug and her age was approximately 18 months. Oh, yes, I did not mean to get a puppy, but due to bad record keeping by the puppy mills, they guessed her age. My vet said she was no older than 18 months. I am very pleased with my pick. I named her Zoe. So now I have two Pugs and wish I could have more..so Lucy came to me as a foster.. 2014. And I failed as a foster and adopted her just two weeks later. She and Zoe are best friends and my little loves. update; Had to put my Zoe down Mothers Day 2021.. lost my little love, but, being me I had to get another dog.. three weeks later I adopted a Chug... her name was JoJo when I got her, did not really care for that name but did not want to confuse her by changing it..
I am not sure if I would ever remarry, but I am not opposed to spending time with a nice man who shares my interests. I love to antique, go to movies, read, travel, hike. My time spent with my stamp collection is my favorite..in addition to time spent with my family.. Am an avid reader and my Kindle is my best friend. I have over 175 books on it and sadly also still get books from my local library.. and of course, Amazon.
Am going bonkers being quarantined.. I am basically a loner, but this is getting to me..most of my friends have passed on..and thank God I have my daughter who lives about six blocks from me.. she checks on me daily and I am so thankful for her. Thank goodness for online grocery shopping..buy online ...pickup,, I will probably continue after this is over. Ha Ha, tried a couple of old folks dating apps, and that was a real joke... so will be single the rest of my life..
