Sheryl Cunningham:

CLASS OF 1964
Norman, OK

Sheryl's Story

My last name was and is Freeman to the 100's (I guess it's really thousands) of Boulder High School, IBM, Erie Elementary and many other places I've worked or volunteered. I also taught middle school in Gainesville, Fla., college in New Haven, CT, and was the assistant personnel director of Malcolm Bliss Mental Health Center in downtown St. Louis, MO in 1968. I've also lived in El Paso (Ft. Bliss, TX) and Binghamton, NY (IBM) though my most recent work for them was in retraining warehouse workers, engineers, and secretaries to prepare them to become computer programmers or to start a business, take early retirement, or use time off to take a trip around the world. Most of my teaching was in Boulder, CO although I also had a couple of classes in Harrisburg, PA and Reston, VA. As a single parent, I needed three jobs (including teaching at Boulder High) in order to support Kristen and Timara. Are you on Facebook? If so, that's an easier way to communicate if that is your desire. I have four grown "children," 36, 37, 38, 39; and 6 grandchildren (5 of whom are boys!) My daughter, Kris Jackson, runs an informational web-site on parenting. Her motto is, Clever kids? yes Clever parents? sometimes. Her motto seems a realistic approach to having three boys ages 6, 5, and almost 3! My daughter Timara lives in Seattle with her husband and son, having started a program for young women at risk to get pregnant out of wedlock. Out of about 250 girls over five years, o...Expand for more
nly one got pregnant without being married. My husband, Karl, is a physicist and inventor who is becoming well known for several of his inventions. It's awesome to have someone at home who can fix or make anything from a swimming pool to figuring out a way to compact the storage of nuclear waste. He now is doing some new work with Doctors without Borders and Scientific American. If you haven't guessed already, I'm proud of him. To our marriage, I brought two girls and he brought two boys, and his mother's maiden name was BRADY! Trent and Troy are also successful in marriage and in life. Trent is a graphic artist and Troy, a construction designer and engineer. I¿m also incredibly proud of both sons-in- law and daughters-in-law as well as Grace and David, our 8 and 6 year old grandson. Life is good and I am nearly robotic! In my spare time I like to write, walk, read, listen to books on tape (which help me "read when I am in too much pain," volunteer, or have another surgery... more about that privately. Those aerial cheerleading back jumps were not without consequence...nor were my 10 mile runs without working out. I am so sad to hear from Greg that his sister, Inez Owings, died in December of 2008, I think. She is one of the brightest people I ever have known! And I remember I had a great visit with her at our last reunion... I especially admired her lovely long white hair that she explained was a result of the chemicals in her career as an artist.
