Shirl's Story
Life
I am single living in Washington State (Puget Sound area). I have been living here since September of 1998. I moved up here with my oldest granddaughter (who was living with me because her mom was in the Navy). We came up to visit my daughter in March 1998 and again in June 1998 only to fall in love with Washington. When we moved up here, my daughter was being shipped out for 6 months deployment. I have to admit, it was pretty boring at first (it rained a lot. But, my youngest sister's (Birdie or Roberta Evans) son, Nathan Evans lived up here, too. So, it was nice having family to visit with. It took me a year to find a good job, so meanwhile, I enrolled my granddaughter in Head Start/ECEA Programs. I began volunteering, signed up for committees, etc... and landed a job as a Family Advocate. eve this is my calling. I have been working with this program since August 1999. I do not work during the month of June and July, but I have been filling in where needed. I am currently being crossed trained in the Health Specialist area. I work with the teachers, parents and children regarding: hearing, vision, etc... I am really enjoying this job as well. I have also been taking classes at our community college, but I am taking a break at this time. My daughter and I went in together and are buying a duplex, inwhich we both live on each side. My daughter has been married for two years and my youngest grandchild (is a boy name Trenton) is one years old, 6 1/2 yr old granddaughter, Shaianne, 11 yr old name Jazmine and my oldest is Brianna (12 1/2 years old). I daughter is going to have another in February and this time we will not know the sex of the child until born. I will post some pictures later on down the road. Hope to hear from some of my ole classmates. Love, Shirl
