Shirley's Story
I moved from Jamaica Plain (Forest Hills) to Walpole in August of 2014 to a retirement community. I am now closer to my church and my friends, and I have never looked back. I am the Secretary for our Resident Association. I volunteer on Thursdays in our Country Store. I am also on the Marketing Committee, have a garden with five double beds and grow cucumbers, tomatoes, summer squash, zucchini, and green beans and flowers.. The gardens, in the past have been prolific.

-family home. It was time to get on with my life, and I have done that. I'm involved with my church and very active there.. I am Chairperson of our Pastoral Care Team. We make meals for those who need a respite after the death of a loved one or someone who has had surgery or just needs a little help occasionally. Since I enjoy knitting, I knit for the Christmas at Sea Program for the Seamen's Church Institute through the Episcopal Church. We also have a knitting group in my community, and we knit squares to put together for afghans for the veterans. We've donated these to the veterans at the West Roxbury VA Hospital. I keep busy and that's what I like to do.
