Shirley's Story
I graduated in 1969. Was disappointed when Lane became office building. Worked at Virginia National Bank. Met my husband Steve Irving (Albemarle graduate in 1965) in May of 1971. We went to Eden NC in Sept 1971 to be married. He worked at Centel. We rented an apartment near the airport. That home was later sold and we moved into Charlottesville. We purchased our first home in 1973 in Barboursville. We have been blessed with four children, Stefanie in 1974, Alish in 1978, Nikki in 1982 and Stevean II in 1986. I was blessed with a husband that worked hard to provide for our family. I became a stay at home mom I. 1982. I started an in home day care business and it flourished. with them. All were in the high school band and I became a 16 band mom. Would not have changed those days for anything. I retuned to the workplace as a Recreation Assistant for Orange Co. I retired from that position in 2011. Since retiring, I am enjoying my children and 9 grandchildren. I love to do crafts, especially needlework and travel. I am very active in my church. I lost Steve in 2008 after an 8 year struggle with cancer. Life is not the same but it must go on. Have now lost many other beloved family members. Faith moves mountains and my sustains me. I now live in Girdonsville in the home that Steve and I bought in 1986. Lots of wonderful memories here. I love getting together with friends and family.
