Shirley VanBuskirk:

CLASS OF 1961
El segundo, CA

Shirley's Story

Left El Segundo after graduation, moved to Ladera Heights, went to El Camino JC. Took up ice skating, met my first husband through that, had 2 boys, then was a single mom for a while working in banking where I met my second (and last) husband. We lived in Huntington Beach, then moved to Fountain Valley in Orange County. Got into tournament water skiing, travelled around Calif, Az and Utah going to the tournaments (still working in banking). Did more traveling to east coast and Caribbean. Got divorsed in '84, been single since, living in Newport Beach. Traveled still to Caribbean, E. Africa and little of Germany. Continued working in banking, then general accounting for various companies until retiring two years ago (semi). ...Expand for more
Have 4 grandkids; 3 girls; 21, 20, 15, and 1 grandson 16. The 20 & 16 year olds live in Germany with their Mother. I work part time at a travel agency doing back office work/accounting, and take care of my mom who just moved from Palm Desert to assisted living in Anaheim. While doing the single status thing I learned to sail; had my own boat (25') for a couple of years, now do more sail race committee then racing myself. I do the Newport to Ensenada race (as a race committee member) every year in April, plus committtee races in Newport & Long Beach, keeps me busy. Looking forward to the reunion and seeing those who couldn't make it for our 45th and reconnecting with you all that did. See ya in Auguat. - Shirley VanBuskirk
