Shirley's Story

Since high school, I have graduated from UW-Oshkosh in secondary education and received my Masters in Educational Administration from UW-Madison. I have worked in education for 33 years, including 29 years in teaching and four in school administration, all in the same school district, Sun Prairie Schools. I am currently teaching social studies in that district. I am married to Don, who is a firefighter for the City of Madison,WI. We live in Fort Atkinson with our dog, who is our "baby". We like to spend the summers traveling the US in our fifth wheel RV. We enjoy viewing wildlife, especially moose and bears. We also enjoy the beauty of th...Expand for more
e mountains and I love WYoming and Colorado. I didn't really enjoy high school-I found it clique-y and I became a high school teacher so that I could help make it a welcoming place to all students. Miss Kukuvich(later Cavender), Mr Ritter, and Mr. Martin were my favorite teachers and inspiration for my own career . I am most grateful for the fact that I got out of West Allis. For a big suburb it has an amazingly small town, provincial attitude. I wrote this a few years back--I retired after 36 years of teaching/administration. I am truly enjoyiing it. I continue to travel with my husband and dog, and have taken up quilting, knitting, etc.
