Shirley's Story
Shirley is from Oxon Hill, Maryland. She is engaged. Her schools include Oxon Hill High School. She works(ed) at HealthPartners.To update my life line. I am now retired from HealthPartners and living the happy life. It is hard giving up the work life but I am getting use to being a Senior now. Wow! It is so nice to look out the window and see the snow falling down and knowing that I do not have to warm up the car and go to work. Love my work. I will all ways enjoy a white Christmas. Maybe that is why I won't move to a warmer state. It has taken me a year to get over not working and doing what I want, when I want and how I want to do it. This is starting to be fun. So feel free to contact me and see how I am doing. Would love to hear from some of my classmates. The good old days.
Time is flying by for me now. I had breast cancer in 1994 and had it taken care of them. It came back in 2009 so now I have breast cancer on my left lung. The doctors are unable to operate because of where it is located so they are treating it with medication. So far I have ad four medication. I will be on one for a year or a year in a half them have really bad side effects and the cancer will start growing again, then they will take me off of that one and put me on a new one. I get around by a walker or wheelchair. In the picture I am the one in the white and that was taken in 2013.
So now I keep myself busy doing crafts, talking to me friends from work and family. My brother is well known as an artist in Maryland (Gordon Johnson) He is a member of the Charles County Arts Alliance. I am on face book. I love my computer. On it mo...Expand for more
st of the time. I do live each day to the fullest. Have a lot of limitations but work around them. I am a fighter as my friends would say. I am up beat 97% of the time. I had such big plans for when I retired but haven't been able to do them.
I check up on the OHHS from time to time. The new school looks great. Boy what a redo. I lived on Livingston Road and walk to school. Me and a friend would cut through the woods to get there. I lived just out side Southlawn. Those were the good old day. I have two brothers and a sister and they also attended OHHS. There is a lot of history there. I found out that the house I grew up in was a Grange Hall before my Dad brought it. He them cut it in half and moved it the the other side of the property fix it up and rented it out. The first half was fix up and that is where his family lived. He purchased it in 1935. I am still digging to get more information on this so that keep me busy. To me it is fun finding out things like this. The old homestead has been sold but the main house is still there. The rented house has been turned into a church. I am a member of Roots, Family Tree, Ancestry and Find A Grave. I do know that on my mother side of the family they had 10 or more children per family. Very large.
Well that is my life so far. Instead of checking in on my site why not send a note I would be more than happy to respond back. There are still a lot of people living in Maryland and Virginia and a nice group from Florida. There are not to many of us around any more. Have a great day.
