Steve's Story
I went to Maryland Elementary school for the entire 8 years, and graduated in 1962. My mother died of Cancer during that summer, so I remember it well. I moved to Buckeye, and actually graduated there after going there for about 6 weeks, but still, WHS is my high school, had a class ring from there, still my "home".
After High School, I attended Glendale Comm college for a semester, but it became too expensive to travel back and forth from Buckeye, so I wound up getting a job, chopping cotton in the Buckeye area, working in the Roses at the Jackson & Perkins farm, and generally enjoying the life I had made.
We moved to Utah in 1967, and I worked in a manufacturing company for a while, before joining the Army in 1968. I served in Germany, and stateside, as they wouldn't allow me to go to Viet Nam, I tried several times. I ...Expand for more
got out of the Army in 1971, but shortly went and joined the Coast Guard. I served in Mississippi (Natchez) on the USCGC CHENA, (a Buoy Tender) from Baton Rouge LA to Vicksburg Miss. Then was transfered to a larger buoy tender in Sitka Alaska, and finished my tour there, getting out in 1975.
I discovered computers around 1980, and have been working with them ever since, having run a BBS system in Phoenix (remember those?) named Artemis Lair for several years during the 1980's, and the finally moved back to Utah after a divorce. I'm currently longing for the warmer weather as these old bones aren't quite as adaptable to the cold as they once were.
That about sums it up, I'm currently working for the Federal Government as a network administrator in Utah, but looking forward to transfer back to the Phoenix area for retirement.
