Sondra's Story
When I was at LPHS it wasn't LPUHS. When I was a Junior there it became La Puente Unified High School. I remember the open campus, the rush to the cornor drug store for lunch, or to the quad for frozen bananas. I was really very shy and bookish, my major friends were in the PR Program. I loved school and still love reading. Just before my Senior year my family moved to Indiana so I didn't really graduate from LaPuente, but in my heart LaPuente is my high school. I would have been on the staff of the year book my senior year in the old gym building. I always loved that building. Didn't date much, but my best friends were all part of the PR Program. Merrill McLeod, Dennis Day, Connie Reeves and I all hung out together. It was great fun. I don't usually blow off steam. I read a lot.
If I'm going to work somewhere, I need to have friends, determination, and patience to be able to deal with the day-to-day. My mother was blind but unless you knew it ahead of time you would never have been able to tell. She has always been the class act I wanted to follow. e. I moved to Apple Valley with husband and children in tow when my father came down with Leukemia, he passed away in 1978. The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is Jackie Binder, because we were best friends. I guess my biggest surprise in life was the discovery that the Cleaver Family was a lie. I really believed that it was possible to live like that. The question is, share what you've learned from your kids. I learned that they grow up. Those cute little guys and gals don't last. As with all things, the teachers I would love to see again have passed away. Nuff said. I have retired from the Funeral Industry after 24 years, and now work as a glorified receptionist at a local hospital. Love it there. Getting paid to help people is my kind of job. I'm really glad that I worked as a Funeral Director, it was very fulfiling work. People need people that care, and if there is one good thing I can say about myself, it is that I care a lot about the people that I meet. My best friend would tell you I'm funny & easy to know, but people who don't know me very well would probably describe me as prim & proper, maybe even a snob. I guess that I have talked enough. Hope to hear from some of the old gang. It would be great.
