Sonya's Story

After high school, I went to K-State for a year. Even though I loved it there, I went to Fort Hays for the remainder of my college. Then I went to Norwich to teach special ed, which I did there for 16 years. During that time, I got married, had a baby and got my Masters Degree. I had another baby in 94 then got divorced in 97. I moved to Wichita then and started teaching special education in the Haysville school district. I got offered and took the position for Family and Consumer Sciences and now teach 8th grade FACS. I love it and it has proven to be a very good change for me. This past year, we had a new middle school in Haysville so I now teach at both buildings. This fall I am going to be coaching again. After 11 years of coaching volleyball in Norwich, I didn't think I would ever want to coach again, but I got the opportunity to be assistant girls tennis coach and I am so looking forward to that. Tennis has become my new passion in the last year. Unfortunately, early this summer, barely out of school, I tore my calf muscle in multiple spots and am not getting to play the tennis I was planning on. Hopefully I will be back to it before summer is over.
