Sonya's Story

Life Well, in July(2008), my husband and I will be married for twenty-two years! We have four children - all boys (ages 20, 18, 11, & 6). We begame grandparents of a beautiful baby girl in November 3007! I have been a stay at home mom for the most part. I enjoyed doing daycare in my home for many years. My husband has been in the military for over 20 years - so we have moved a few times. My children were all born in different states where we have been stationed. (Texas, Washington state, South Carolina, Arkansas) We currently live in Arkansas. Would love to hear from anyone who may remember me! Since my dad was a preacher we moved around alot and went to alot of schools. I was very quiet (and boring). And I guess I probably still am! I was really lucky to make some good friends along the way who I still think of quite often! Thanks to you all who were nice to the quiet boring girl who wore dresses all the time! I do appreciate the memories! School My father was called to be a preacher when he was in his thirties. We moved around for him to go to Bible College and later when we moved to Wisconsin where he became a pastor of a small but very friendly church there. We switched schools alot along the way. From Texas -to Missouri (where we moved and switched schools 3 times!) -to Wisconsin ( 3 moves). I actually never went to Goodrich High School. We had started a Christian School in our church where I was lucky to go through all 4 years of High School. I discovered that not very many people register on the Elementary/Jr. High lists so that is why I am registerd at Goodrich. I have found a few old friends and it has been great hearing from them! College After graduating in 1983, I started college in the fall. I wanted to be a missionary. I attended Fellowship Baptist College in Illinois. I met alot of great friends there who I have lost touch with!! During the summer break from college (1984), I went to Moraine Park Technical College in Fond du Lac to be a certified nursing assistant. I went back to college in the fall and worked at a nursing home at n...Expand for more
ight. It was exhausting! I ended up returning home at Christmas to my great family who I missed very much! I am really blessed with having great parents and MANY (6) siblings who are also great! Workplace Well, my first job (spring-summer 1983) was at Sand Knit, a sewing factory, in Waupun; I was NOT very good at it! It did pay well for a first job though. During my first year at college, I was a receptionist for a traveling photography company. After I became a CNA , I worked at nursing homes for a few years. I really did enjoy this - most of the time! I did spend about six months working at Hardees and it ...sucked. When my children were born I stayed home with them. We lived in base housing (Charleston, SC). I became a licensed home daycare provider on base and I loved it. It was the best job! Good pay and great rewards!! I did this for 8 years. We then moved to Arkansas where we have bought a house in a rural area. Home daycare did not work out here but, there just happened to be a small daycare around the corner. I started working there and was able to bring my kids with me. Actually, the two older ones were getting pretty big and were in school. They were old enough to stay home on the days (in the summer) they wanted to. That all worked out pretty good for a couple years. I haven't been back to work though since my last son was born. I'm busy driving my sons everywhere (schools, doctors, dentists, work, emergency rooms!) I'm also discovering that even though they are older, they don't necessarily ACT older. This may be mostly a guy thing! They still need their mommy! Currently (2008), I do home daycare. I keep my granddaughter so her mother can finish highschool. I have 2 other babies I keep also. They are adorable! Military My husband's name is Jon Boyd and these are the Air Force Bases we have been stationed at: Boot Camp in San Antonio, Texas (January 1988) School in Wichita Falls, Texas (March 1988) McChord AFB, Tacoma Washington (1988-1990) Charleston AFB, Charleston, SC (1990-2000) Little Rock AFB, Jacksonville, AR (2000-present)
