Sonya's Story
UPDATE #3!!!!!!! After taking my EdD to University of Arizona as an Assistant Professor of Practice for 5 1/2 years, I have moved on to better, brighter and such GORGEOUS settings. I am now a lecturer (instructor & researcher) in early childhood education in Dunedin, New Zealand. This Kansas prairie-girl now lives with an amazing view of the harbour and just over the hill from the South Pacific!!
UPDATE #2!!!! I have now fulfilled all requirements for my Doctor of Education. I am now Dr. Sonya Gaches, Ed.D. Take that stupid S.M.West Career Counselor, who said I should just stay home and take care of my kids!! Instead I've spent over 25 years working for the benefit of ALL kids....now have my doctorate!!! :-PPPPP
UPDATE!! I have left the elementary school and now am an Assistant Professor of Practice at the University of Arizona in Tucson. I live in both Tucson and Tempe now! The I-10 is my best friend.

I have three wonderful children! They are all in college right now. My daughter, Celia, is in vet. school at Kansas State. I have twin sons, Brandt & John. Brandt is an astrophysics major at University of Arizona. John is a psychology and art history major at Northern Arizona University. Both of the boys already have plans for graduate school! (Can you say "Gaches family college debt"?????)
Professionally I have been an early childhood teacher for over 20 years! (Where has the time gone?) I started with toddlers and then I taught first graders for 10 years, and for the past 11 years I've been working in a multiage program with first, second, and third graders. Additionally, I teach courses and do research in early childhood education as part of my studies towards my doctorate in Early Childhood Education and Curriculum Studies. Hopefully I'll be finishing that up within the next year or so.
