Brian's Story

Greg, Just in from sailing. I bought a yacht a few months ago. Joined the Austin TX yacht club. Good fun. I sailed as a kid with my Dad. Been doing it for 30 yrs. now. I got a 1966 Columbia Sabre. It is an ocean Racer. The boat is 32' and fast. I owned another boat in L.I. back in the 80's. It was more of a cruising boat. The story of how I came to Texas is long and ardious. I've been here for 15 yrs. now. Finished college back in 95. Still take some classes. I own a machine shop here in Texas. Mostly prototypes and short runs. 1 of these and 6 of those. I'm a pretty small player. I don't fight traffic and I don't really answer to anyone. I never got married or anything and have no regrets about that. No children either. I've managed to keep my life simple. It is for the best. I have a girlfriend now and then, but not at the moment. I left one a few months ago before it got to ugly. She is a famous singer. She was a hot lick chick from "Dan Hicks and the Hot Licks" and then sang back up for the Kinks and now has 7 solo CD's. She was a handful, and my patients ran out. I have not been back to L.I. in 4 or 5 yrs. and have no plans of ever going back. My life is way better here. I miss pizza and good Deli's and some of the night life back in NY. Traffic was never my thing. Cold weather is also for the birds. However, here in TX we have had heat that feels really repressive. 103, 101, 105 for about the last 40 days. It is also a little much. The heat can take a lot out of you. I love the winters here. We have 75 and 80 degree days in Jan. Mostly, life is good to me here. I own a building in a little country town just north of Austin TX. I live right on the town square. They shoot movies here now and then. Back in the 90's they did "The Newton Boys" here and everyone got a part as an extra. My building is in the movie. THey also shot "The Stars Fell on Henrietta" and about 18 months ago they did a small independant film. Kings of the Evening. I had a small part as a worker in a cement factory. It didn't pay much but they fed me well and I got to rub elbows with some high end movie stars. Naa, I can't even rem...Expand for more
ember his name at the moment. Oh, Tyson Beckford.! He was a tall black pretty boy that had a bunch of broads follow him around and put make up on him all day. He was a star. He was the highest paid male model in the world. Big deal. What has he done for me lately. He is always on the cover of GQ mag. Anyway, the town is a cool looking place. It reminds me of Northport. Brick streets and old street lights. All the downtown buildings are 100 yrs. old. Mine was built in 1905. I got 4000 sq ft. I have a machine shop in the front and I live in the back. I have nice digs, but 100 yr old buildings have their problems. There is always somthing to do or fix. Last winter I gutted my kitchen as the floor caved in. The guy I bought the place from has no idea how to do anything. I had a plummer replace all the sewer lines and in a week or so I hope to pour cement. It has been a big job. I've been eating out of a taco stand for 10 months. I'm sick of it too. Austin TX is a great town. There is always somthing going on. They host the largest music fest in the world. I get all my business out of Austin. The city bills itself as the live music capitol of the world. Lots of good fun to be had in Austin. The town I live in is called Bartlett. It is run by crooks. The city council is crooked as a dogs hind leg. If you step out of line, they can send you a $4500 electric bill. We buy our electricty from the city and they get to tack on a percentage. Thats how they get their taxes from us. I just let them do as they will and I stay out of it. I've seen too many people come along and try to change it. They get their bill and shortly after they are packing up. I stay away from them. They asked me to run for city council and I just told them that I didn't come here to politic. It was a set up. I've seen how that works too. I wouldn't be the first to be reamed by them. I should have stayed in Austin. I have a lot of equipment here and it is going to be hell to move it all. Someday I will, for now I'm here. Greg, Tom has my email, why don't you send me a story. I have to go to bed now. Good to know you are well. Take care. Brian Mulligan
