Stacy's Story

Life Looking at my life I think of how much more I would like to do. I'll admit that I'm comfortable, and that family life is mostly a happy experience. I have two daughters that keep me busy, and a husband from the South with conservative leanings. His politics and mine cause us to bump heads during election time, but he goes off to work each day, and he's got a good heart. After high school, I went to Occidental College, getting my BA in Theatre Arts. A really useful degree, as is a liberal arts education! Shortly after graduation, I moved to the San Francisco Bay Area. I have lived in Berkeley, Alameda, SF and now I live in San Leandro, CA, just south of Oakland. I became a cocktail waitress at a couple of popular bars. Life was a party for a while. Lots of dining out, wine tasting in the Napa Valley, skiing in Tahoe, etc. I decided I'd better start doing something a little more serious, so I got a job with a little office machine company in San Francisco. I got in as the computer clone business was taking off, so our company took off as well. I became the purchaser for the company, and saw it grow for a few years, then saw it shrink too. I took another buying position with a big computer aggregator, but they were sold, and changing management, so I jumped ship and went to one of their distributors. I worked there as a senior buyer in the Hewlett Packard group, but got laid off when the company lost a big contract. During all of this work time, I managed to get married, and have 2 great kids. Marriage came a little bit late in life for me, I was 32. Kids came even later. I was 36 when I had my first, and 40 with the seco...Expand for more
nd. Being laid off was like a fork in the road. I helped out at my husband's little company, then became a substitute teacher in my local school district. I enjoy teaching and may yet get my credential if finances and time will someday allow. It works out well with my kids' schedules, so that I can be home to help with homework, and get something to eat for dinner together. My husband no longer has his own company, which I like better. He works in SF for a communication company. Financially, times were hard for a while when the dot com industry was taking a dive. We have managed to dig out of the hole, now we just need to get some more put aside so that we're not working when we're 80 years old. As I approach my 50th birthday, I am planning to go to the British Isles, a place I've longed to go forever. My heritage from my mother's side of the family is from Wales, Ireland and England, and probably Scotland somewhere down the line. I want to see castles, and palaces, and go to the theatre in London. I want to go to an Irish pub and raise a glass of ale in a toast. I'm not well travelled, in fact I've only been to Mexico for my foreign experiences. I've been to several of the United States, but could use some more travelling here as well. I plan on getting to Yellowstone soon, since I've got some good friends living there. Anyway, I guess that's my life in a nutshell. Nothing stupendous, but I'm happy. I still want to write a book, maybe do some community theatre, and I always need to clean my house! When I was 17 I figured that I would have a maid by now to do all of my cleaning and cooking! Oh well, I'm working on it.
