Stacy's Story

Life After graduating from college, I taught at history at Kingwood HS from 1996-2000 and then at Tomball HS from 2000-2004. I married the most wonderful and loving man in 1999 after knowing him for only six months. After living in Kingwood for a year, we moved to Spring and we recently had a house built in Magnolia to live in a more "country" type atmosphere. I am currently a stay at home mom with a beautiful daughter and handsome son. I am not sure if I will return to teaching. I recently started my own home based business so that I can take on a new adventure and challenge. It allows me to teach others but on my own time. I am really enjoying it and I think this is where God has led me. School I attended Lumberton HS from 1986-1990. Everyone knew that I wanted to be a teacher, but I didn't know what I wanted to teach or what grade. I just knew that I wanted to make a difference. The teacher that inspired me the most was Mr. Perryman because he made English the most interesting subject to me when I didn't care for it at all. He had so much passion and energy for his subject and I think it made a real difference to a lot of his students. I still remember to this day some of his ways to remember vocabulary words. "How dare you have the audacity to doubt my veracity or even insinnuate that I might prevaricate!" Some of funniest I remember where in Mr. Perryman's class when he left the room and Missy Myers was trying to something before he came back and when she was running back to her desk, she missed the desk and fell flat on her butt! I also remember playing "Wheel of Fortune" with Mrs. McBride's 9th grade AP English class when the sub didn't show up and the school board was observing Mr. Perryman next door. I remember Mr. Morgan being irate, but he was later impressed that we took roll and never left the classroom. :) College I took what I comically call the "Tour of Texas" during my college years. iversity-Beaumont from 1990-1992. I then attended UT-Austin from 1992-1993. In Austin, I roomed with the valedictorian of my HS class, Stacy, who eventually became my best friend! When she decided to move to San Antonio to go to Law School, and I had more friends in SA than I did in Austin, I decided to transfer to UTSA. I attended UTSA from 1993-1995. I graduated from UTSA with a BA in History in 1995. I then returned to Lamar University-Beaumont to earn my teaching certificate. I can honestly say that I didn't learn anything from their education department! Thank God that the Social Studies teachers at Kingwood HS were so open and willing to share their material and classrooms with me so that I could become a better teacher! The professor that I will always remember from college is Mr. Alvaraz! I will never forget his "YOU WILL HAVE A GOOD DAY!" at the end of every class. He was always concerned about my "suitors" and that really cracked me up! I was honored to be his "Minister of Maps" in his Modern Spain class. Thank you Mr. Alvaraz for teaching me so much!! I would have to say that the classes that I enjoyed the most were Constitutional Law (yes, I really did), the Sociological Perspective of Religion, and the History of Religion in the US. Workplace It's amazing to think that I turned out to be a teacher despite my background. My first job was in a pharmacy and then was followed by jobs in physicians' offices and then as a district secretary for a pharmaceutical company. After college, I began teaching and during the summers I took on temp jobs to provide me with additional cash until I met my husband. I taught for eight years and am currently staying at home with my children. If you would have asked me ten years ago where I would be, I wouldn't have imagined that I would be staying at home because I was very career oriented then, but since then I have learned that my family is much more important than a job could ever be.
