Stan's Story
Stan's schools include Kenmore High School. Stan later attended University of Akron. Stan works(ed) at Wonder Bread. After school I worked at Clarkins .I met Sandy in march of 67. We did a lot of boating and goofing off. Then came that dreaded letter ,YOU ARE ORDERED TO REPORT TO CLEVELAND FOR INDUCTION JAN 16 1968. Well I did and was sent to Ft. Knox to become BAGGESEN US51834855. I learned all kinds of crap like how much I hated to run, and march,and.be called maggot. After 8 weeks I did get to see the largest snowfall in Kentucky history (so they told us) 13 ins.It was the only time they ever cancelled a basic training graduation. The next day I was sent to Ft. Polk Louisiana. It was 50 degrees no one there could remember being that cold. There we learned to survive and blow stuff up. Shot all kinds of neat weapons.Beautiful state however .After twelve weeks I got to come home for two whole weeks , I did get married. Ten it was off to the NAM with the first Cav. walked point for 7 mos. not by choice but it was better than drag. by the grace of GOD nothing nothing ever happened when I walked point.( I only walked it 4 or 5 days a week . We did see a lot of action but it was spread out .1 day of action made up for two weeks of quiet. Made some friends lost some forever. WAR SUCKS!!! went to Hawaii on r& r ,beautiful !!!. Spent my 21st. birthday over there. In June 69 I came home for another two weeks . Then went to Ft. Lewis Wash. where I drove a truck. Got out in Jan 70.We have 2 children Lori and Jerry. They each have 2 kids Lindsay Jeniffer,Paige,and Zack (all my buddies) I went to Akron U. and studied art education. Ran out of GI. benefits, so I'm 12 hrs. short of being a teacher. may go back.I worked 39 years at Wonder Bread plus other part time jobs.Now I'm retired fishing, golfing,biking,woodworking etc. Pretty boring or not. favorite quotes are ,It's what you learn after you know it all that really matters(Foose) and If you're afraid to make a mistake you'll never make anything(unk.)
