Stan's Story
I moved from Corpus to Houston in 1961, met my future wife there and we were married in 1962. I have 2 sons, 2 grandsons and 1 granddaughter. I worked for Phillips Petroleum and was transferred to Oklahoma City in 1970 to help open a new office. In 1982 they had company wide layoffs, closed the office, and I went to work for Southwestern Bell and retired from there in 2003. My wife passed away in 2013, six weeks before our 51st anniversary, after suffering from Alzheimer’s for 7 years. I was her caregiver.
In 2004 I started working as a tutor with a volunteer organization at the library that teaches adults to read. I was asked to serve on their training team to teach other tutors...Expand for more
and a few months later was asked to also become a board member. I tutored and trained until my wife’s health deteriorated, but am still serving on the board. I am also serving on the board of the American Pigeon Museum and Library in Oklahoma City. I joined a Travel Club for retirees that has close to 500 members about 3 years ago and was recently elected to their board. So with those plus being a chairmen of another organization, attending a weekly coffee group and meeting friends for dinner weekly, I do manage to keep myself busy during retirement.
Now looking forward to my youngest grandson’s graduation from Oklahoma State in May and my oldest grandson’s wedding in December.
