Stanley's Story
After the UofO, I spent four somewhat miserable years working for a bank in the area and with the last assignment in Junction City.
Following that, another four years working for my parents in their wood floor business. However, the relationship with my father was quite difficult and as a result I realized I could not continue as is. By default and that the business customers were calling me at my home, I decided to do a few jobs to make ends meet. A few jobs turned into 23 years and I had for a time, the largest commercial company in Oregon installing sports surfaces. I also began consulting work on an international basis and have done many projects in South America, Europe and the Middle East.
In 2004 I was offered a position as General Manager of a commercial contract business in the Phoenix, Arizona area. I accepted and then just closed my Oregon business. After only 16 months here, I lost...Expand for more
the position due to downsizing. I then worked for various peers on a short term basis in Arizona, New Mexico and Alaska. I also took on additional international consulting projects.
My marriage with Sue ended in 1983. I had full custody of the two daughters for three years before marrying a neighbor lady in Springfield. With her daughter we did the blended family trip and actually worked out OK. Now have three grandchildren.
Even though I get the full Social Security benefits, I will continue to work as long as I am able to in particular the international trips. My latest project was in Israel and after COVID subsides possible trips to India, Tobago and perhaps a return visit to Bogota.
We do like the East Valley in the Phoenix area and have acclimated to the heat during the summer months. We will not move back to Oregon but we do miss the greenery and McKenzie River.
Be well to all.
