Life I'm now divorced after 28 years of marriage and three wonderful children. Life has been better ..but it certainly has been worse. In 2000 my 18yr old daughter Jessica died of complications of rejection after a double lung transplant for cystic fibrosis. She was 9 weeks old when diagnosed and placed on the transplant list when she was 14 years old. After a 2 1/2 yr wait we were told there was no more time to spare...MD's at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston proposed to remove her lungs in entirety and replacing them with potions of lung tissue from living related donors. My younger brother Mark and I were Jessica's donors in a 12 hour operation that gave her a chance to become a cheerleader with the high school basketball team, return as a color guard with the marching band and even attend her senior prom. Fourteen months after transplant and three weeks before her high school graduation Jes died of an overwhelming infection and organ rejection. It's been 13 yrs since the transplant and 12yrs since her death and I can't believe how much my life has changed. I've lived thru the worst part of my life now I'm ready to go on.
