Stephanie's Story

05/25/2019 Update It's been 9 years since i've updated. Many things have happened. I got married in 2011 and I am still married although I still use my last name of Heine - just to complicated to change it. I never did find the perfect teaching position, so I initially went back to retail management and have moved on from that. I am now a service Advisor with a local dealership. I get paid the same as a teacher, but without all the stress. Both my daughters have been married an now divorced. No grandchildren at all - oh well. Both of them also completed their master's degrees and are doing well. like everyone else I've had my highs and lows, but overall life is good. Updated - 11-15-2010 Instead of rewriting my story, I've just decided to leave the old posting as it might tell a better story. I'm still in the same place, hard to believe I've actually stayed in one house for 10 years. It's different though with Doug dead, and the girls having moved out to start their own lives. Maddy and her husband Gregg are surviving in Fort Worth, and thinking about what they will do in May, once Maddy has completed her Masters in Communication Studies at TCU. They are thinking about Austin, Texas. They are now the proud parents of 4 rescue Dogs and 2 cats - all with names from what appears to be Jane Austin Novels. Maggie is living on her own in Fort Wayne and continuing her undergraduate degree in Human services. Me, well, it's been impossible to find a new teaching position with the all the qualifications I have because I cost the district a couple grand more than the average 22 year old graduate, so I decided to regroup and go back to retail. I am now the Store Manager for Fashion Bug in Columbia City. I really enjoy it despite the weird hours. The benefits and pay are better than teaching, so I think this will do for now. Who knows what the future holds later. I don't have a significant other, or any insignificant others to mention. I think for now, it's just better to try life on my own. It's lonely, and I hate not sharing my life with someone special, but it sure beats the dating game. I'm on that great social network fb, occasionally so look me up, ask me to friend you, and you can see my story and pictures. I'd love to know where your life has taken you. Steph November 2009 I just saw that the last time I updated this was over a year ago. I have had a great deal happen in just a few short months. I am now certified to teach Language Arts in both Middle and High school, but since finding a job in education here is difficult, I am subbing for now. I was recently approved to become the Drama Director for a middle school in Warsaw, Indiana, so I will be starting that project soon. My oldest Daughter has moved to Fort Worth, Texas where she is completing her Masters in Communication Studies at Texas Christian University. She received a full scholarship and I am so proud. She also got married this past August. My younger daughter is a freshman it Indiana University Purdue University in Fort Wayne, and doing very well. Again, she makes momma proud. For Excitement this summer I loaded the 1977 Jeep CJ-7 on a trailer and hauled it o Tucson Arizona where it now resides with my brother Tim Keifer(RE 1...Expand for more
986). I took 10 days and drove over 4,000 miles. I was able to stop in Fort Worth and Dallas to see my daughter and my sister Kristin Keifer Simenc (RE 1984)before I headed home. Yes, I did it all by myself. For those of you who don't know, I lost my husband Doug Heine (Crete-Monee 1982, ISU 1986) in September of 2007. He died in a car accident on his way to work. We were married for 20 1/2 years, together for nearly 25, and had known each other since we met at the Oval Thanksgiving of 1979. It was devastating, but I am coming through it all and doing well. We have lived in Indiana forever, and currently live on Tippecanoe Lake in North Central Indiana, literally, in the middle of nowhere. It's a great place to live if you don't mind driving a lot. I thought about moving to Arizona, but the timing isn't right. Will stay here until Maggie graduates and heads off to graduate school, so I'm here for at least another 3 years. If you really want to catch up with me and many of our class mates go check us out on FB. I really enjoyed our reunion. I wish more of you were able to attend, but I understand the reasons, as I ran the gamut of emotions before I went too. I'd love to hear from everyone! I've found it very cathartic to talk to past friends and classmates. Love like there is no tomorrow, Work like you don't need the money, and Dance like no one's watching! School Too many schools to actually comment on. Moving back and forth from the mid-west to the east coast made it difficult to make and maintain friendships. We were in Park Forest the longest, as I was able to complete Jr. High and High School. I actually attended 7 different schools before I finished the 12th grade! That may explain why I was a little detached. I did manage to carry parts of each place with me. I've kept the happy memories and let the unhappy ones go. I wonder what ever happened to Sharon Connelly, as she was such an influence during the early teen years. College Quincy holds special memories. All the guys from the Dog House were great friends. How they ever put up with giddy freshman girls I'll never know. The dances were great, the parties fun. Classes were classes. I left to get my future husband through college. Together we got through ISU. The only reason I was there was him. A few special people touched my life, but I just wanted to finish up and get out. Workplace What you see is not all that I've done! I would hate to give credit to companies that made me feel less than human! I've recruited IT people for employment agencies, I've answered phones for an exterminator, I've sold kids shoes, and even run my own daycare (very successfully I might add). I've done what ever it takes to put food on the table. I've enjoyed working in manufacturing environments. There is something about the power of the machinery. The best part is that I'm involved in the administrative aspects, so I don't actually operate the equipment! It's safer for everyone involved! I've enjoyed my graduate studies and hope to continue once I find a permanent teaching position. I was meant to be a teacher, and I love doing it when ever a teacher is kind enough to leave me a lesson plan that allows me to do so. I hate babysitting classes.
