Stephen's Story

Hello, Well, in a nut shell: I attended both Washington and Irvington High Schools in Fremont, CA from 1966 until Dec 1968 when my father was transferred to New York City. I initially attended Bernard's HS in Bernardsville NJ then later graduated from Ridge HS in Basking Ridge NJ in 1970. I received an Associate's degree from Prince George's College in Largo, Md at this time followed by my Bachelor's Degree in Professional Aeronautics from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in Miami, FL.. I joined the Air Force in 1973 and was stationed at Andrews AFB, MD. I was selected for Undergraduate Pilot Training, receiving my wings at Reese AFB, TX in 1980 . I did F-4 training at McConnell AFB, KS in 1981, where I met my wife, Ann. We were married in 1983 and in 1986 we were blessed with our daughter, Amy. I accepted a position with the Air Force Reserve at Wright-Patterson AFB, OH in 1985 as an F-4 Instructor Pilot. While flying the F-4, I was deployed to numerous locations to include sitting alert at Keflavik NAS, Iceland and Roosevelt Roads, Puerto Rico. In 1989, I converted to the F-16 and went through RTU training at Luke AFB, AZ. During my time flying the F-16, I was deployed to Skrydstrup, Denmark and Elmendorf AFB, AK, among other locations. In 1990 and 1991 Ann and I were again blessed when our two sons were born, Robert and Stephen. I...Expand for more
n 1994, the unit converted to the C-141, flying Strategic Airlift Missions to all seven continents during which, I had the opportunity to make ten landings on the ice at McMurdo Station, Antarctica in support of Operation Deep Freeze, staging out of Christchurch, New Zealand. During Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom we flew numerous Medevac missions from Baghdad and Balad, Iraq and Bagram, AB, Afghanistan while being deployed to Ramstein, and Spangdahlem, Germany. In 2005 we again converted to another aircraft, this time to the C-5 and I continued to fly worldwide until my retirement in 2008. I then accepted a position in the Constant Hawk ISR program in Iraq for the Army Research Laboratory that I continued until 2011. I now work as a Program Manager in the ISR Sensors System Program Office with the Air Force Research Laboratory at Wright-Patterson AFB, OH. In 2009 our daughter and her husband were blessed with our grandson, Augustus (Gus) and in 2013 with our granddaughter, Aurora. Then in 2021 with Aurelian (Riley).. Our son, Robert and his wife welcomed our newest grandchildren, Jacob (Jake) and Jaxon into the family in January of 2014 and December of 2017 respectively. Hope all is going well for everyone and I look forward to hearing from you guys in the future. To quote Jimmy Doolittle: "I could never be so lucky again!".
