Stephen's Story
Joined the Navy in '73. Served aboard SSBN654 Blue. Got out in 79. Moved to Atlanta. Married in 82. Finished GaTech in 84. Daughter born in 84. Moved to middle GA, worked for P&G. Moved to Charleston SC in 86, started working at Charleston naval Shipyard. Divorced in 88. Worked with IMSA GTP race car. Our car finished 5th in '89 24 Hrs of Daytona. Started windsurfing, enjoyed that for 3-4 years till my back said enough! Survived hurricane Hugo in 89. Went to Hawaii to visit Mike for 2 weeks. Left shipyard in 93, started at Multiplastics as Engineering Manager. Around 96 started working at Williams Technologies. Married Janine in 2001 and again in 2002. WTI bought by Caterpillar around '05. Daughter Jessie graduated GT and went to work for Senator Arlen Specter in DC. Did an Iron Butt 2000 ride in 2...Expand for more
004. Started racing WERA Vintage in 2006. Broke collarbone in 07 and tib-fib in 08. Lost 13 weeks work - decided to quit racing. I think I'm a better builder than racer. Found I could download and burn CDs from archive.org/details/GratefulDead so that's what I listen to - exclusively. I only got to attend one Dead concert, Chapel Hill, 93. Gave up being an engineer in 06 and went to work as a toolmaker in Caterpillar's machine shop. They let me take a cut in pay and responsibility. Who needs the headache? Now, everyday I see, and put my hands on, what I make. I also get dirty. :-) I had a Golden Retriever but he got old and kindly went off. He could hold 3 tennis balls in his mouth at once. He learned that by picking up pine cones while we walked. I would like to get another Golden - they are so nice.
