Stephen's Story

Workplace I currently own three different businesses while keeping my home in Florida. I commute to Fayetteville, Arkansas, Kansas City and Salt Lake City from Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. "Butler Broadcasting Co. LLC" is one of three radio groups in NW Arkansas (Fayetteville Bentonville, home of Wal-Mart, JB Hunt Trucking, Tyson Chicken, and University of Arkansas) It consist of four radio stations, KXNA - New Rock 104.9 "The X" (alternative rock), KREB - "The Fan" (a sports station), La Zeta (Spanish), and another station we're moving the tower and transmitter and switching to News Talk. We bought the stations in August of 1999. I hope to have my sons working with me and keep the stations for some time. It's about five hours from St. Louis and not too far from the Springfield - Branson area. NW Arkansas (Fayetteville, Bentonville, Springdale, Rogers, Belle Vista) is actually a really nice area. With Wal-Mart it is one of the fastest growing cities per capita in the country. People are nice. It has very scenic rolling hills with a lot of trees. There is a lake about half the size of Lake of the Ozarks only twenty minutes away. Below the dam the White is a greet trout stream. We also have HMEB Broadcasting in Kansas City. It's also radio. KCZZ is a Spanish station. We stated it in 1999. "The Boom Box Corporation" with sales office Palm Beach Gardens, FL and manufacturing in Salt Lake City. We started in 1987 after we sold KWK and KGLD in St. Louis. We manufacture and remote broadcasting studios in the shape of a Giant Radios (i.e. Giant Boom Boxes), Giant Juke Boxes, Giant CDs, Sky Box (a g...Expand for more

K-SHE used to have a Giant Boom Box and KMOX currently has The Super Prize Machine. Almost every market in the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand has one of our products. We also have them in Germany, Switzerland, England, Latvia, Russia, Estonia, Mexico, France, Guam, Japan, Argentina, Columbia, Bahamas and all over the world. The products sell from $30,000 to $250,000. It's been a strange but fun and profitable business. After I got divorced in 1989 it allowed me to spend a lot of time with my two sons who I love as much as life it self. It's funny like most teenagers I didn't have a lot of confidence in high school. I never really thought of myself as a leader much less an entrepreneur. I played rugby during high school and many, many years (and injuries) after. I got confidence through sports and went from an introvert to an extrovert. Every one of my wildest dreams and fantasies came to reality. I was able to an enormous amount of time with my sons until they went to College and then I was able to back to my true love of running radio stations. I work long hours now but it is not like work it is bliss.… oh yeah sometime a pain in the ass too but I feel fortunate that I get to do what I want.
