Stephen's Story

Life has been winderful, challenging, and a arowing experience since graduating from West High. After attending Phoenix College I went to Bolivia on a mission for the LDS church where I lived for 2 years. During that time I experienced four governmental revolutions which were interesting each tine. I also had many positive experiences with the people of Bolivia. After returning home I joined the Phoenix Police Department and also got married to Mary Lee McPhetridge who graduated Winslow High School class of 71. She was on the Pom Pom team and graduated as a member of the National Honor Society. We adopted two girls then had two boys biologically. We loved to travel, but on a limited budget for the first few years we usually went to Disneyland with the kids. In 1978 Mary Lee and I became Scuba certified and went on a trip to Hawaii to dive and to take the Honeymoon which we nevet had previously. We have visited Europe, South America, and have taken many cruises to Alaska, Mexico and the Caribbean. When our youngest boy was 18 years old we adopted two young children from Eastern Russia. A boy, Ivan age 9, and his younger sister, Sasha who was four.years old at the time. It was very interesting living in Kharovsk, Russia for four weeks during the 2 stays we were required to make. I must say it was different dealing with the courts there vs here in the USA which I was accustomed to. Under th...Expand for more
e counter presents (bribes) was the order of the day with all involved. After retiring as a supervisor from the Phoenix Police Department we moved to Hyde Park, in Cache Valley Northern Utah where I worked for Hyclone Laboratories in as a supervisor in the quality control department for 14 years. The kids and I learned to snow ski and went skiing regularly at the Beaver Mountain ski resort. We also went ATV riding regularly. Some of our rides were over 100 mies long. In 2009 we moved to Palme, Alaska We built a house before moving and lived there for six years.. We loved living there in spite of 4 hours of dusky light in the winter, along with high winds off of the two glaciers we lived near. Hunting and fishing was great there. Our youngest daughter Sasha who still lived with us at home loved to go salmon fishing every summer in the Kenai River. In 2015 we decided to move to Heber Arizona to be closer to three of our married children along with grandchildren. We still have Sasha living at home. She is a senior at Mogollon High school here in Heber. We enjoy taking long rides in the forest with our Honda Pioneer 1000 . Our dog Sable, who came with us from Alaska and LOVES to run 8-20 miles in the firrest when we take our rides. She takes breaks when she gets tired by riding in the back of the Honda. October we have a scuba trip to Cozumel along wiith sightseeing to the ruins in th Yucatán.
