Stephen's Story
Life has had a lot of twists and turns over the years. I'm married to a wonderful woman and have five children. Three boys and two girls, with the oldest boy married and a son of his own.
These kids have been the greatest thing that happened to us, and in 2007 we came close to losing one of them. Rebekah, who was 9 at the time, was diagnosed with cancer. She had surgery to remove a kidney and a large tumor, but after many months of chemo and radiation treatments, she is currently doing quite well. Still a long road to go, but we are hanging in there.
I work for the Kansas City, Missouri Police Department as the Manager of the Communications Unit. I am in charge of the unit that handles all 9-1-1 calls in Kansas City Missouri and does all of the radio dispatching for police officers. I started there in 1990 as a dispatched and have been promoted through the ranks until I now hold the current manager position. ars ago when I started. I never would have guessed that the department would civilianize this captain's position or that I would some day have that job. It has been a blast, and every day brings new and bigger challenges.
The one largest difference between high school days and today is my Faith. I really did not live out my Christianity in high school, but today I am blessed to serve as the worship leader for my home church, Central Assembly of God in Independence. My wife and I began attending there shortly before we were married some 26 years ago, and we still attend there today. I lead worship with an acoustic guitar, and through the years I have learned enough to keep going. I am by no means an excellent musician, although I love to play.
God has been so very good to me and I owe everything that is good and right in my life to Him. My faith and my relationship with Jesus is what has sustained me through the years. That faith will continue to carry me forward!
