In 1981 transferred from Seoul American High School to Meade Senior High School. I went from a couple of hundred students and we all knew each other and our families to a school of thousands who didn't know anyone and half of the school were civilian kid from off post. That last part was the oddest part for me because in Korea almost everyone's parent was in the military and if you got in any trouble it could affect your parents careers. So all of a sudden it seemed like a lot of the civilian kids didn't give a crap about any rules or regulations. I was really bitter initially going to Meade because we had lived in Korea for almost 5 years and if I (my Army dad) had been able to stay there one more year I would have only had to take one class (photography) to graduate. Since I came into the Meade system I had to meet additional state requirements which meant I had to take a lot of classes with 9th and 10th graders so I didn't really hang out with any seniors from my class. I had a full schedule the first semester with no lunch and they were kinder and gave me a lunch period for the second semester. They didn't even want to accept my 3 years of taking Korean as a language because it wasn't a recognized language according to Maryland state educational standards it needed to be either Spanish, French or German.
