Stephen's Story
I went to Jefferson Township School when it was still considered a farmer's school i.e. a rural school. I started going to the school in October of 1957 and graduated with the Class of 1969 in June 1969. Grades 1 & 2 were held in the original 1930 school building on Union Rd. I attended Grades 3 through 6 at the Radcliff Elementary school in Drexel, OH. Grades 7 & 8 was known as Junior High School in my day and was held at the original school building. My memory of attending the 7th grade is forever linked in my mind with the assassination of President Kennedy as that event took place at the beginning of the school year in November 1963. I still remember listening to the first radio bulletins of his death on a transistor radio someone brought into the classroom that gloomy Friday afternoon.
I attended Grade 9 or my freshman year of high school in the old 1930 school building. (1964-65) Grade 10 through 12 was conducted in the new high school building which had be...Expand for more
en built, opened and dedicated in 1966.
Thanks to my father I enrolled in the Ohio State University for further schooling in electrical engineering but I did not get a degree from there. My studies were interrupted by military service in 1971. I later obtained a bachelor's degree in liberal arts at a school in Wisconsin while in the US Army.
I served in the Army from 1971 until 1999 at which time I retired. I found a suitable civil service job working with the Navy in 2000 and I worked with them until the summer of 2008 at the Great Lakes Naval Station in Illinois. At that time I was experiencing health concerns which made me request a disability retirement from the Navy. Nowadays I just try to take it easy. I returned to Ohio in November of 2008 and am trying to reconnect with life here. My entire working career had been spent outside of Ohio at various military bases both here in CONUS and overseas and I had lost touch with what it means to be a true Buckeye.
