Stephen's Story
Life
Since leaving Akron in June of 1971, I have lived in 3 beautiful California locations; Laguna Beach, Cambria & Calabasas, and now 6 months on a 40 acre ranch in rural West El Paso de Robles, Adalaida vineyard region..
I am a fine artist, musician & composer and an inventor. But, I have also worked as an investigator and office manager for Westerly International, Inc., a private investigations corporation with clients including Rockwell International and ITT.
I got married and divorced after 22 years in a true midlife crisis at the age of 44.
No kids...
Since my divorce I developed a new love of downhill skiing, play tennis, golf
and even though I still ride mountain bikes I am no longer jumping them like I was in 1966-68.
I feel pretty young for 56, exercise regularly, have been on a natural foods diet for 35 years,
'got all my hair and a 33 inch waistline'.
After living here for 43 years I can say
my dad was right about this place,
there are 'crazy germs' in California!
It is 65 outside this Easter weekend
here on the Central California coast
and life is grand.
Samples of my art at FlatMagic.com and stepheneprice.com
new big stuff. In December 2009 a curator from the Louvre Art Museum
contacted me to document some of my trompe l'oeil paintings...
a little validation from a long way off over the pond..
School
Biggest Crush...
Durrr... Tina Jensen and Gail Klausner
Favorite teacher... Ms. Clayton my english teacher in 10th grade who convinced me I could do anything... even if no one else believed it. Would I do it all over... hmmmm
Jeepers are you kidding, if I could do it all again I sure would have learned to
reject the junk my parents laid on me
... learned to kiss a lot sooner... and not been so damn geeky, yikes it's frightening thinking about it. Still, I am glad I haven't grown up yet.
I remember a really wild party at Willy Frances's house, where all of the jocks and jockbabes were drunk, watching stag films, smokin' dope and hooking up...
and did I get involved...
nope, too brainwashed by the judge... my dad.
Kids and the things they do!
Really dumb and dumber... setting hydrogen sulfide stink bombs off in the cafeteria. Gosh, today a Haz Mat team and CNN would show up.
Dumber: at this moment the craziest thing I can remember is climbing to the top o...Expand for more
f the BHS chimney to see the city lights and
nearly falling off when the coal fumes hit me, "watch out the 2nd to last step is loose and dust falls in your eyes"...
College
1966 to 12/1969... U of A...
lots of art, sex, drugs and rock & roll...
a fine way to learn next to nothing and still get A's.
1994 UCLA extensions program
a fine way to learn a whole lot and
make improvements in my art and writing skills.
Workplace
Graduated BHS '66
first job, musician bass guitar & vocals in The Blue Underground at Akron U (student center house band). Then...
WOODSTOCK... a life changing event.
I was asked to leave Akron U in 1969 when I flunked ROTC, but got lucky with a 1Y upgraded to 4F, joined Wild Butter... bass guitar 1 album... 1970 United Artists Records... move to California 1971. In California; airbrush textile designer, airbrush photo retoucher, freelance airbrush illustrator ( some clients... McDonnell Douglas, IBM, DeLorean, Alcon, Toyota, Toshiba, NFL, LA Dodgers, Frisbee,
Surfing Magazine, Lyon & Lamb), freelance medical illustrator, airbrush instructor Cal State Long Beach fine arts dept, also at Orange Coast College and Saddleback college.
I have scenic artist for commercial photographers, invented the proccess for broadcast weather in color prior to color satellite imagery, also invented a process for painting two independent paintings on one surface.
Went to a non art job when I was offered a job as an investigator and later office manager for
Westerly International Investigations.
I worked part time for a hotel doing maintenance and learned hotel Spanglish, worked a digital service bureau doing digital photo-retouching
and illustration, I have owned 2 fine arts galleries and the chief of conservation at the National Gallery in Washington DC knew who I was when I visited there in 2003 for a show in my genre of painting, trompe l'oeil. I am now painting custom trompe l'oeil murals and other fine art... to see a small sample go to FlatMagic.com
~~~~~~~
Life is good and it is 65 outside in March!
Military
No Military Service...
I failed to pass airforce ROTC at the U
was asked to leave in 1969, and since I was not a jock-type at BHS counted myself as fortunate when I got the 1Y that was later upgraded to 4F... I have never been a fighter as Jimmie Foxx knows.
