Stephen's Story

Life has definitely not turned out like I planned. After graduation I worked in a machine shop in Tulsa for 3 years and my parents farm. I stayed in Bristow and drove back and forth. In 1981 I took a trucking job with a harvest crew. I was 21, no bills to pay, and no relationships demanding my committment so I thought I would see the country and get paid for it. It was a great summer. I lived in Oklahoma, Kansas, Colorado, and Montana. I had almost made up my mind to stay in Kansas. While it was out in the flat western desert part, I loved the community. On 9-14-81, however, life took one of those unusal turns. At 9:15 in the morning I had an accident that took my entire right arm. In 1989, I was finally told that the EMT crew lost me a couple of times in the ambulance and almost didn't get m back. Well .... I'm still here ..... just missing a few parts. I tried to get back on my feet but the next 6 years were a mess. Every time I tried to move out on my own and start my life, something would hit me either physically or financially. It all came to a crashing halt in 1987. During a 9 month period, I lost everything I held dear from jobs, money, relationships, and event the use of my remaining arm for a few months. I have said over the past 20 years that if my parents had not let me live at home for free at that time in my life, I would have been homeless or dead. Well ..... take it or leave it .... here's the turn around. Through a series of supernatural events, I found myself standing in the presence...Expand for more
of a loving God who sent His sent His Son to die for me and give me life. It all started when I met a young lady in a Tulsa motel one night so we could be alone. We loved each other, but never expected the events that occurred that night. When we walked in the room, there was a Bible laying open and of all the passages for her to read, she had to point down to Hebrews 13:4 which says, "Marriage is honorable but adulters will be judged." That screwed me up. I lost track of time and was utterly confused for several weeks. Finally one Sunday morning (5-3-87) I met Jesus for the first time. Mrs. Foster had a habit of telling us what our futures held ;). She told me in class 1978, "In 10 years you're going to be a teacher or a preacher." Of course we all laughed our tails off at the absurd notion of that! I preached my first sermon in April of 1988 ..... 10 years after her statement :0. Go figure. Mrs. Foster told me later she did mean it .... but God did. Well, from there I went off to Bible college in OKC. Got a degree, met a girl, had a couple of kids, and have spent the past 20 years telling people about Jesus. Where am I now (2008)? I live in Mustang, Oklahoma, work for the State to help pay some bills, preach on the weekends, and I'm in the process of getting my 1st book published and on the bookshelves within the next few months. It's been a ride! Alot of ups and downs. There are a few things I would change but I cant .... so we move on and live life for His glory and the good of those around us.
