Doug's Story

Life For anyone who may be curious as to how my life after TCCHS progressed, first of all you're probably sick. But if you really must know, here we go... Following graduation from TCCHS I followed a girl to the North Texas State University. After that didn't work out so well (ah, young love)I decided that perhaps the University of Texas at San Antonio had all I really wanted from an institute of higher education. Graduated with a B.A. in Anthropology (!) and a commission as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Air Force in 1990. College was moderately entertaining. It may surprise my TCCHS teachers that I graduated Magna Cum Laude, but hey Anthropology is not exactly rocket surgery. I know it would surprise a lot of my friends to learn that I was an officer in the student government and the 1990 Homecoming King. Don't ask it's a very long story! Following UTSA the Air Force sent me to Pilot Training at Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls, Texas from 1991 to 1992. Following successful completion of Pilot Training I flew C-21s (a military version of a Learjet) at Randolph AFB back in SA from 1992 to 1995. Following Randolph I continued flying the C-21 as an Instructor Pilot at Keesler AFB in Biloxi, MS from 1995 to 1997. In 1997 I got the opportunity to crossflow into the F-15C "Eagle." I was in training at Tyndall AFB, FL from 1997-1998 and then stationed at Eglin AFB, FL from 1998-2000. Let me just say that flying Eagles and living on the Florida beach is not a bad deal. In September of 2000 I was sent to Osan AB, Republic of Korea for a one-year stint as a Combat Planner. That was not fun! From September of 2001 to today I have been a T-38 Instructor Pilot at Laughlin AFB in Del Rio, TX. Next it's off to RAF Lakenheath in the United Kingdom to fly the Eagle again. During my Air Force career I've managed to get promoted a couple of times and I'm now a Major, hoping to be a Lt Col after this summer! I've been to the Middle...Expand for more
East three times in 1993, 1998 and 1999. Along the way I managed to get married and have two great kids. My wife, Chrissy, and I met when we were both involved in Student Government at UTSA. We were married on December 27, 1990. Our son Jonathan was born on January 21 1992 while we were at Sheppard AFB. He is 13 now and in seventh grade! He loves sports and video games (standard!). Daughter Hannah was next, born on 16 July 1995. She is now 9 and kicking the snot out of fourth grade. She loves to paint and is incredibly creative. In general I'd have to say that I'm pretty much right where I expected to be in terms of my career. Moderately successful with no delusions of greatness. I love the heck out of being a fighter pilot and sometimes still can't believe I get paid good money to fly the world's greatest airplanes! In terms of family life I'm much more successful than I ever dreamed possible. My wife is the greatest partner to journey through life with, finding adventure around every corner. My kids are a treat to be around and they're turning out OK, so far. Hopefully we won't screw them up too badly! As for all the misc. stuff, yes I still own the same airplane I had in High School. It will await our return from the UK in a friends' hangar. I still love Rush and Big Country. To this day they are still the only two bands I really listen to. I still have some Judys, Toejam, Cure, U2, INXS, BOC, Yes, Asia, Modern English, etc. stuff laying around and will pull it out for a listen when the mood strikes! Well, that's about all I can think of to bring you up to date on my life. If you've made it this far I applaud your determination. It sounds kind of boring and plain when you put it on paper but I have enjoyed every day and had more adventures and experiences that I believed possible, there's just not enough room here for the details. I sincerely hope that all of you have enjoyed life after TCCHS as much as I have. Spater!
