Steve's Story
There isn't enough time for all the things I love to do and want to learn. I've been in High Tech for most of my life and love the excitement of whatever I know today will be obsolete tomorrow. I worked at Intel for 28 years, making it to the third level under the president. I got mad about being told to fire 2/3 of my staff in 2006 and retired. Unfortunately, I hadn't prepared very well for my retirement and I was too young to draw on my 401K. I'm now the intellectual property portfolio manager for a new high tech start-up in Camas, Washington. I live in Hillsboro, Oregon and commute 45 minutes each way which is a drag.
I have a lot of hobbies, but my favorite is building unusual things. Art or architecture, it doesn't matter. I'm somewhat embarrassed to say I recently bought a sewing machine because I got tired of recruiting people to sew things for me. Based on my first project, I know professionals have nothing to fear. I've taught scuba diving and meditation (my Calif. phase!). I met the Dalai Llama in a friend's living room once when I was 17, but really didn't know who he was. now skis. Played semi-pro soccer and went to the Explorer Olympics for 6 different sports. I've owned a hang glider and spelunked once (didn't like it). I love building animatronics for professional haunted houses. I worked a lot in Hollywood with some recognizable stars. I have over 4000 movies and throw big movie parties in my home theater which is in it's own building. I bought a 10' blow up screen and a professional PA system for a five day horror movie festival I threw in Champoeg park this summer.
My friends are often 20 years younger than me as I still have a lot of energy. I have two wonderful high school aged children that I'm totally committed to. I don't smoke, drink or eat red meat. I probably should be a Seventh Day Adventist or Mormon, but I like having my weekends free. I also wouldn't like the yoke of an organized religion. I did become an ordained minister online and have conducted two wedding ceremonies for friends. The first one only lasted a year (but I was great). The last one was in a haunted house with the bride and groom dressed as zombies. Instead of rose petals or rice, we threw candy!
