All the time :-) any day on this side of the daisies is a good day and the next is even better - me "I wish we could turn out every Congressman and Senator of every party, chop the bureaucracy in half (at least), and then restaff all of them with average people. I think we’d be better off. But then again, I could be wrong." Patrick Mead "Never argue with an idiot. They drag you down to their level then beat you with experience" Mark Phelps "The nine most terrifying words in the English language are: 'I'm from the government and I'm here to help.'" Ronald Reagan “A wise and frugal government, which shall leave men free to regulate their own pursuits of industry and improvement, and shall not take from the mouth of labor the bread it has earned - this is the sum of good government.” Thomas Jefferson "A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the majority discovers it can vote itself largess out of the public treasury. After that, the majority always votes for the candidate promising the most benefits with the result the democracy collapses because of the loose fiscal policy ensuing" Alexander Tytler "Nobody made a greater mistake than he who did nothing because he could only do a little." Sir Edmund Burke "you need the accountability, challenge, and opportunities for service and growth that being in a group of other messed up people [your church] offers. To deny that is to consider yourself wiser than the One who made you." Patrick Mead "When we speak of following Christ, it is the crucified Messiah we are talking about. His death wasn't simply the messy bit which enables our sins to be forgiven, but which can then be left behind. The cross is the surest, and truest and deepest window onto the very heart and character of the living and loving God. The God who made the world has the cross at His he...Expand for more
art." N.T. Wright - The Challenge of Jesus "Made for spirituality, we wallow in introspection. Made for joy, we settle for pleasure. Made for justice, we clamor for vengeance. Made for relationship, we insist on our own way. Made for beauty, we are satisfied with sentiment, but new creation has already begun. The sun has begun to rise. Christians are called to leave behind, in the tomb of Jesus Christ, all that belongs to the brokenness and incompleteness of the present world. It is time, in the power of the spirit, to take up our proper role, our fully human role as agents, heralds and stewards of the new day that is dawning. That quite simply is what it means to be Christian; to follow Jesus Christ into the new world; God's new world which he has thrown open before us." N. T. Wright - the last paragraph of his book Simply Christian “Be not angry that you cannot make others as you wish them to be, since you cannot make yourself as you wish to be.” - Thomas a Kempis "May God bless you with discomfort At easy answers, half-truths, and superficial relationships So that you may live deep within your heart. May God bless you with anger At injustice, oppression, and exploitation of people So that you may work for justice, freedom and peace. May God bless you with tears To shed for those who suffer pain, rejection, hunger and war, So that you may reach out your hand to comfort them and To turn their pain into joy. And may God bless you with enough foolishness To believe that you can make a difference in the world, So that you can do what others claim cannot be done To bring justice and kindness to all our children and the poor." - Franciscan blessing -".
