Steve's Story

Life If you want to contact me go to my Facebook page. Steve Bentley, Radium Hot Springs B.C. I no longer use these pages. Okay it happened again this past summer....like a rolling stone. Read on from the appointment letter. I am pleased to announce that Steve Bentley will be appointed Principal, Windermere Elementary School effective August 1, 2009. He is currently Vice-Principal, Lady Grey Elementary School in Golden, having come to SD6 from Haida Gwaii/Queen Charlotte School District in September 2008. So I am now living in Radium Hot Springs, home of the Bighorn Sheep. From Aug. 11/06 and I was Principal in the Queen Charlotte Islands off the B.C. coast in Masset at Tahayghen Elementary. I am enjoying my new location and will add more later. I was Principal in Eabamet Lake, Ontario – from August 18/03 to June 18/06 having completed the Aboriginal Principal Qualifications Part II, July/03. I returned as Interim Principal to Eabamet Lake on March 24/03. Previously I worked simultaneously for the Thames Valley District School Board as an occasional teacher and team-taught the ‘Digital Imaging and Animation’ program through the Continuing Education Department of Fanshawe College. I was able to teach the computer material because I took one year off to complete 1 year diploma involving animation, web design, graphics, and illustration software - Digital Imaging Fundamentals at Fanshawe College in London, Ontario. I was the Valedictorian. In conjunction with the above assignment, I also taught the second level of the course ‘Web Page Design’. In addition, I taught evening classes in the use of various types of software. During this period I also freelanced some web design and digital imaging work. During my first sojourn in Eabamet Lake (Fort Hope) I performed the duties of a Principal, Vice Principal, Head of Special Education, Visual Arts instructor, and Special Education instructor. ticipated in a Native Language Preservation Project, this was from October 1995 to June 1999. My position as a Special Education Specialist made me familiar with various forms of assessment and as Principal I was responsible for overseeing all programming and assessment of programs arranging I.E.P.s and I.P.R.C.s. My duties entailed preparing biweekly reports for E.F.N.E.A. and reporting to the Chief and Council when requested. My early teaching career was at Elgin Middlesex Detention Centre and Dunnville Secondary School allowing me the opportunity to develop and hone my fledging teaching skills. It was at Elgin Middlesex Detention Centre, a maximum, medium, and minimum jail where I first began my forays into curriculum development. To become a teacher I attended University of Western Ontario achieving a Bachelor of Arts (Honours), in October 1991. I was also awarded the Visual Art Scholarship, Senate Scholarship, and the Benjamin W. Noble Scholarship. I compacted 4 years of study into two and remained on the Dean's Honor List. I completed my B. Ed. at Queens. I also have a Diploma of Landscape Design, Fanshawe College. From July 1985 to September 1989 at Artisan's Alley in London, Ontario I was Head Prepator / Manager at an Art gallery representing professional artists. Responsibilities ranged from coordination and execution of in-house exhibition and custom repairs to framing and inventory control / ordering. During my last three years of employment at the gallery I actively exhibited my work at three London galleries. The proverbial late bloomer! I have been in three marriages and I have managed to become a single individual again! A close friend suggested I should hire an agent to negotiate any former unions. My lifestyle always has me shifting around so I am rarely satisfied with 1 location for long. No children, each of my former spouses brought theirs into our relationships. So far thats it.
