Steve's Story

Greetings and Salutations!!! What would others say about me if they knew me? Walked in my shoes? Saw through my eyes? What would they write here for an others to know, to remember, to ponder upon? Here goes, I hope I have some tangible way of expressing some of the views that have been shared with me by others. My name is Steve Burden. I was saved at the age of seven and remained true to the LORD all my life sometimes to my own detriment by not fitting in. I am married for thirteen years now working on fourteen. We have two beautiful children, a daughter age 6 going on thirteen and a son age 13 months. I was married before for almost fifteen years while I was in law enforcement and we have four children which are all adults now. I have three older young men and a young lady. Three are married and there are seven grandchildren with two of them. Two more grandchildren are on the way with one of those and one of the other young men. My oldest is the Senior Pastor of the same Church I once served in as a Deacon before the marriage ended very poorly. I am a former Eagle Scout, a former decorated United State Marine and after training as a MOS 2814 electronic tech I went Recon and achieved first Parachutist status then went Aquatic. I became a Deputy Sheriff in Ohio and served several times with several departments and as a Police Officer. My last fifteen years were spent as a K-9 Officer/Deputy and later a Master K-9 Handler. I served on tactical units as I am a skilled marksman/sniper. I am now retired from law enforcement. But while serving in law enforcement I cross trained myself as a firefighter and obtained permanent TNI status, today they call this level 3 Firefighter. I first trained as an EMT-A and later as a Paramedic. I served fifteen years as a volunteer Firefighter/Paramedic. I achieved voluminous awards of all kinds of magnitude over my years. I opened, bought in or operated several businesses along the years and became a self made millionaire (on paper versus cash, which came later) before age 30. I was asked to write an autobiography before the age of 33, I declined, stating, ¿I did not believe that I actually had anything worthwhile to share yet¿. After being out of formal schooling, not including training or technical schools, I returned to the same University I began a degree at, some thirty years earlier. I not only earned my B.A. I also returned to SCUBA and am an Advanced SCUBA Instructor. I am certified to teach most all of the American Red Cross training, both on land and in the water. I additionally returned to training in the arts and am a traditional martial arts Instructor and teach Shogen-Ryu Karate-Do. I teach different self defense courses around the area based upon request...Expand for more
and need. On the side, I own several houses and personally rehab them (I am capable of doing almost any possible housing job there is, carpentry, plumbing, some hydroponics and HVAC, electrical, siding, roofing, dry walling and all that entails, etc. to name a few, as any qualified professional would do) and turn them when the market is right. I am currently holding for the changes coming in the real estate market down the road. I am active in the community we live in and as such volunteer serving as a Trustee and on the Board of Officers in my neighborhood association. I was recently elected to the Parliamentarian Officer position for the next year. I think there are quite a few things that I have done that would qualify as unusual to most average people. I have named some already. Let me mention a couple of different ones here. I save on the average about two to three lives a year still and carry medical gear that allows me to do this. I could mention some specific lives I have saved that touched me but that is another story for another time. I have had the shear pleasure of traveling our great Country from coast to coast and everything in between and been to 49 of 50 states in my life. I have taken my family to most of these states and recognize how truly great our Country really is today! I desire to finish my MBA and believe that this will assist me in securing my family's heritage inheritance over the long road should the LORD not return within my lifetime! I have learned volumes about how business really works and about the law, business, obviously criminal and Constitutional law and would like to earn my J.D. if possible after this degree is finished. We'll see if that is not too far gone for an old guy like me to do? To answer some of what was stated in the beginning of this post I will add this information. I had my neighbor, a seven foot three inch black male former Oklahoma University football player, say recently to me, "I am so glad to have you for a neighbor. I learn something new every time I am around you. I know that the man that you are, you will rear up your young son in the way a man should be. I grew up the hard way because my mother and grandmother reared me. I wish I had a man around like you are to have taught me the important things that we need to know in this life!" Statement made by Lawrence (last name withheld for his privacy). Best wishes to all my fellow classmates from Orville Wright Elementary school and Wilbur Wright High School! I do hope that many of you will chose to stay in touch over the years ahead! Take good care of yourself! Respectfully, Steve Burden NOTE: The pic was taken last year (2008) at the MS walk in Dayton, Ohio with my faithful K-9 at my side!
