Steve's Story
Life
Went to CCC and ECC for a couple years but never finished. Worked in electronics for 7 years with Texas Instruments up in Hunt Valley, MD until getting laid off in 1991. Started with SAIC in Columbia, MD in 1992 and have now worked my way up to Sr. Network Administrator. Bought my own house in Arbutus, still single and never been married but have a girlfriend who will probably change that soon. :-) Still hang around with Mike Springer, Rob Wiseman and Paul Elliott but don't see them as often as I'd like. Drop me a note to say hi, I'm usually online.
College
Attended Catonsville Community College in 1982 as an Electronics major. Went to class off and on until 1986 when I lost interest. Attended Essex Community College as an Electronics major in 1992 after getting laid off. Stopped attending after Essex dropped the Electronics program. Attended CCC again in the mid-90s as an IT major but stopped attending after being disappointed by the state of their IT program. Enrolled in Strayer University Fall 2002 and taking classes online an...Expand for more
d loving it. I'm on track to get my Bachelor's degree in Computer Networking some time in 2005. Just made the President's list last semester after getting A's in my first four classes.
Workplace
Started with a company called EMC in 1984 as a Mechanical Assembler. The company changed hands and names two more times during my 7 years there. I was promoted to a Sr. Mechanical Assembler and then transferred into the tech department and became an Electronic Tech. Last position I held before getting laid off in 1991 was Sr. Electronic Engineering Tech, but the pay sucked anyway. Started with a company called Ideas in 1992 as a Mechanical Assembler again. Was promoted once before transferring to the IT department in 1994. Since being in the IT department my job titles have been Telecommunications Tech, LAN Administrator, System Administrator and currently Sr. System Administrator where I am currently the senior IT person on the staff. The pay is great and I love my job. It's a continual learning experience keeping up with the latest technology.
