Steve's Story
Life
My Spouse
We met in class at El Centro College. Terri grew up in Fort Worth, and graduated from Eastern Hills High School.
My Pets
Hello Kitty is an orange and white tabby we got from the pound. We also now have a Wire Haired Fox Terrier named Lizzie.
My Kids
Jennifer has her Master's Degree in Political Science and is Assistant City Manager of Grapevine, TX. Andy is in the Gas and Oil business. We call him Andy Trump. We have five Grandkids.
School
I really enjoyed life at Samuell. My favorite teacher was Mr. Ibbotson, until he had a psychotic episode in class one day. That was interesting. Greg French, Mike Yearout, and myself usually met for breakfast in the morning at the Pig Stand. We'd skip first period and go to school at 9:20. We'd stop by the office and get our detentions. After school, we'd do those thirty minute detentions, and study (rarely). By the time we got out, the parking lot was empty. Samuell never figured that one out, how we skipped an hour and paid 30 minutes back. We had our share of characters there.
College
I went to East Texas State College in the Fall of 1964. Robert Bellah, Eddy Singletary, Tommy Belt, David Kukes and some of the others went as well. I rarely w...Expand for more
ent to class or studied. The second semester I roomed with David Kukes. That was a bad combination. I dropped out of ETSU (it became a University while I was there) in May, just before I would have been formally asked to leave. I worked for nine months and went back. I didn't fare any better. I started working full time, and going to El Centro at night. I acquired 44 hours of credit and was transferred to Fort Worth. I tried UTA one semester at night, but that was like going to Harvard. I never went back to school.
Workplace
Greg French and I got an apartment at the University Gardens at Central and Mockingbird. Greg moved out and Mike Schiff moved in. I took an accounting clerk's job at Peavy Company Flour Mills. Dreadul job. I would rather stack BB's than do accounting. The computer took over my privileged position. The lady who sat in front of me said her husband worked at Bosco Bolt. She got me an interview and they hired me. Since 1967, I was gainfully employed in the fastener business. In 1979, we opened our own company. That was turned over to our son in 2002 and I retired. I came out of retirement in 2006 and went to work for the TSA at Bush Intercontinental Airport. Retired for good in 2012.
