Steve's Story

From 8/28/21 Finally found a place to move to in Wisconsin, after thirty-six years in Arizona - it is time to live within 215 miles of the family after all these years of visiting every eighteen months. Since the end of March of this year, I alone have been the driving force behind the residential and vacant land sales in at least five counties in northern and southern Wisconsin, as I found a place to fall in love with only to lose the paradise to someone else a dozen times. Realtors have thanked me for inspiring the sales that led to their improved incomes so far this year! Leinenkugel Summer Shandy for all!! Why Wisconsin? When I made the drive back to the airport in Minneapolis from Wheaton in April, I drove west to Galena and into Wisconsin to see if my lottery ticket was a winner. And then onto the Mississippi River security check-point between Wisconsin and Iowa. I found that Iowa has only county roads that for GPS I was able to roll up one hill and down the other all the way to Minnesota as I caught a glimpse of the Mississippi River along the way. Minnesota planners saved money not installing Welcome to Minnesota signs, leaving statistical analysis as my only means of determining whether or not I had crossed from Iowa into Minnesota. rthern Illinois to the severe order of the farmlands and woods toward Minnesota, I have found the seemingly intentional natural debris field management of Wisconsin farmland and woods from St. Paul eastward into Wisconsin and northward to at least within 55 miles of Lake Superior in the north woods to my bearded/flannel liking. Wisconsin Rapids has 19,000 people with another 38,000 residents in the twenty miles around it. The city I have lived in for some 13,140 days has 227,000 - the one a welcome to sign width away has 269,000 and another a sign width away to the north has 499,000 in a 100 square mile mix that we have all come to believe is good living for traffic moving and the crime rate not being too noticeable. As I have just forty years to go, I look forward to the Wisconsin donner and blitzen, the snows and ice, though not the rust on cars that I have not seen since 1985. From classmates.com I am grateful for catching up with several classmates again, saying to Jeff Buending (72) one day in April how I didn't recognize him (after 49 years) for being three inches shorter than I remember RIGHT as he said he didn't recognize me for being three inches taller. This tether between age fifteen and age sixty-five is a precious one. Wishing you all the best! Steve Feld
