Steve's Story
I'm writing this in hopes of not missing another Brown Deer High School reunion. Well, I'm still talking alot, almost 30 years past Brown Deer High. It doesn't seem that long ago that I was playing tennis, throwing a frisbee in Brown Deer Park or at the Lake Front.
I finally graduated UWM with a degree in Journalism. Took my girlfriend, soon to be bride and headed for Los Angeles. We almost starved to death while she was in Law School. Suddenly she was making money as a lawyer and my entertainment publicity business took off. Been living in Burbank, Ca for most of my adult life. In fact, last year as of July I've lived in California longer than I did in Wisconsin. Where do I even begin. After High School I attended UWM and worked at the Milwaukee Journal (on the customer service board) and at The Milwaukee Sentinel (as a freelance reporter) covering such things as pooper-scooper laws and sewer easements. My girlfriend was accepted into law school at Loyola in Los Angeles. I moved out there with her and we got married. Ate lots of macaroni and cheese, then we finally hit our stride, her being a lawyer and me being an entertainment publicist. Was married for fourteen years, then split up in 200...Expand for more
0. I have two kids, Sam, 14, and Kimberly, 16. I went corporate for a while, becoming Director of Communications for Hilton Hotels. I worked in the corporate office in Beverly Hills, yes, 90210 was the zip. :) Imagine me in Beverly Hills overseeing the communication of corporate strategy for over 2,000 hotels. You think any of my high school teachers would believe it? :)
I still do entertainment pubicity, plus I also doe events and marketing for Harley-Davidson. I can be found on the weekends cruising up the Pacific Coast Highway, stopping off at Malibu Seafood for some clam chowder, or going up to Santa Barbara for some fishing on the pier. All is good. I miss Milwaukee and come back often for a custard and to visit my cousin, my aunt and uncle who live in Sturdevant. I still follow the Packers, even without Brett Favre.
I'm still the same old guy I was in high school, rowdier than my kids are anyway. I miss Kopp's custard and just everything about Summerfest and afternoon thunder storms. Both my Mom and my Dad passed away in the past five years. So except for my sister, no immediate family is left. I guess I've been guilty of not staying in touch. I'll try a little more and see what happens.
