Steve's Story
Life

After graduating from Bolingbrook High School in 1977, I attended the University of Illinois in Champaign and majored in Metallurgical Engineering. I worked summers at Packer Engineering Associates in Naperville and IBM TJ Watson Research Center in New York and graduated in 1981. I stayed at Illinois and studied Thin Film Physics and Surface Science and graduated with a PhD in Engineering in 1987.
While in graduate school, I met Laurie Edgar and we married in 1983.
We now have three Children: Chad (born in 1986), Jenna (born in 1988) and Olivia (born in 1990). The kids all have played or are playing soccer. Chad was a wrestler and the girls have also been involved in cross country, swimming, and volleyball. Laurie has been very involved with the schools and the soccer programs.

at Oak Ridge National Laboratory in the area of plasma processing of thin material layers for microelectronic applications.
In 1996 we moved to Decatur, Georgia next to Atlanta and I started medical school at Emory University School of Medicine. I stayed at Emory as a resident in internal medicine and a fellow in nephrology. I also spent a year teaching as Chief Resident at Emory University Hospital. In 2006 I started with Nephrology Medical Associates of Georgia, a new group with 2 others I knew from Emory and another who joined us from Case Western.
I also continue to cover the Veteran's Hospital Emergency Room as the emergency room MD.
One of my favorite recent activites has been participating in and volunteering for the medical team on the Bicycle Ride Across Georgia since 2001. My daughters have joined me for the ride since they were 10 and 12.
