Steve's Story

Went to College in Denver in 1966. 2 years at Regis, an all mens school which is where my grades landed me. Then to Univ. of Denver for two years for a co-ed experience. Skied frequently, became an instructor hoping to be able to teach young, rich, ladies ( a myth. those have boyfriends who teach them to ski, be, bought an MGB, graduated in 70. #323 in the first draft, Went to work at Frontier Airlines in Denver, as an internal auditor, spent 4 years there, got married to a gal from Chicago met, when in Sr. year while on spring break in Phoenix. (she went to ASU), came back to Sheboygan and operated the Grime Fighter Car Wash on Calumet and North for 4+ years during the oil embargo, at the insistence of my now ex wife, we moved to Phoenix, worked for Coors for 5 years, then joined FedEx in sales in 81. Two children Heather and Mike. Heather the surpise, Mike the planned. Moved to Memphis without the soon to be former wife in 83. Spent 4 years there in Marketing Management, then moved back to Denver in 87 and been here since. Single from 86 to 95 when I met Rachel and we married in 2000. FedEx allowed me to travel. Been to France, Germany, Switzerland, Egypt, United Kingdom, Ireland, California,(mentioned it only because it is like going to Mexico) Hong Kong, Malaysia, Phillippines, Bermuda, Brazil,Belize, Puerto Rico. Most notable vacation was the trip down the Nile on a hotel boat to visit all the Egyptian monuments. Been to the burial chamber of the great Pyramid at Cheops. Got into Hang Gliding in Colorado in 87 as it was something I had always wanted to do. Flew in New Mexico and Colo. Been to 14,500ft. lots of fun. 2 years ago did the sky dive jump from about 14,000 in Las Vegas. Now that is a rush. Scuba diving, in the Caribbean, Belize, Molikini crater in Hawaii, Cozumel. Still like little sports cars and have owned a bunch. Presently restoring a 73 Triumph TR6, (2nd one I have had) that I picked up in Memphis couple of years ago. Have had a Subaru wagon since 1995 with 225,000 miles and love it. Drive the BMW convertable when the roads are dry. Have a 73 Mercury Capri awaiting a resto. One of those cars whose speedometer limits at 140. Been to 125 before a hose burst. 3 dogs, 2 cats for companionship. My Heather and Mike are grown and gone as are Rachel's Kathy and Greg. his wife and kids. Kathy here in Denver with her new husband. We like to fish and camp in the mountains.Fished Bermuda, Hawaii, Puerto Rico. Largest catch the 157 lb blue marlin in Hawaii. Love to fish Alaska as have been there many times. Fish the rivers and ocean. Have had personal encounters with Moose and Bear although not within a stones throw fortunately. The state is everything they say it is and you should go. Nothing quite as exciting as camping in a tent up, in an area where bears have been know to show up and hearing scratching sounds out in the fire pit and snorts, when you can't just open a small fly and look out. So grab the leatherman and put it on stun, open the zippered fly and realize that you don't have to defend yourself against 3 dogs mauling a pizza box. But gets the adrenalin going for sure. Bad dogs, Bad. Folks are in AZ in a retirement community. In their late 80's Dad is still strong, Mom starting down that road. Had my heart attack about 7 years ago and have 5 stents keeping things open. No near death experience to report. Been fine since Jack Daniels and I have developed a meaningful relationship. Praise be to our Creator who allows Dr's to do what they do to keep us going. No side effects other than that I can't remember our anniversary. :-) December 2010 marked the end of a 30 year carrer and who know what happens next. I have retired from FedEx and have been most fortunate to work for a great company who will take care of me till at least 95. Put the house on the market and wondering in what direction the Almighty will send me next. Haven't heard from him as yet so just haning out and enjoying retirement. Rachel continues to work at Frontier Airlines, with great benefits of free flight if you can get a seat, but most importantly carries the insurance burden for me. Great to have a great woman pulling in the same harness. Have thought about the next job step if there is to be one, Will have to see how long it takes me to want to have to suffer the indignity of working for managers that most often, are not where they should be. God will point the direction. Conservative concerned at the direction the country is going. Made sure I bought the semi-automatics to insure I had some prior to, who knows what. did you know that a Trillion dollars represented is.. $1,000,000,000,000. Thats just 12 zeros. What are we giving to our children and their children. A government that will take care of everything including death? I rant. Will be at the reunion. Have my reservations.
