Christine's Story

Life Life is great! I married Steve Kois in 1972 after we met at a coffee house where I was a folk singer. We had three kids in three years. Yikes! Then, I went back to college for a chemistry degree, and currently work as director of quality for a pharmaceutical company in Madison, Wisconsin. My husband drives an 18-wheeler for Sara Lee hauling bread and donuts. (It's like asking the fox to drive the chickens into town!) We live in Madison, Wisconsin, in a beautiful condo overlooking Lake Mendota. We spend our summers power-boating on the Madsion lakes. Our son Josh (29) and daughter-in-law Fran and two granddaughters (Alexandra, 8, and Anastasia, 5)live in Madison. Josh is a trucker like his dad. Fran works at Barnes & Noble (lucky her!) Our daughter Leilani (28) and son-in-law Mike with baby Hunter live in Zion, Illinois. Lani runs a day-care center from her home. Mike is an apprentis plumber. Our daughter Bethany (26), just married her sweetheart, Nathan, last Sunday (5/30/2004) in Madison. BEAUTIFUL wedding! Beth is a senior at Iowa State University, majoring in science, pre-med. Nathan is also a senior at Iowa State, pre-law. They have a four-year-old daughter, Gillian, and own their own home in Eldora, Iowa. There have been a few bumps along the road, but our family is healthy and happy....Expand for more
What more could we ask for? School At Foreman, I played keyboard instruments and percussion in the band, though I was strictly mediocre. (Remember Mr. Grubbe? He could be a real stinker. But, once, when the coach was hastling me for no good reason, Mr. G stood up for me. I was shocked, but thankful!) I was also a reader for the blind students. Loved doing that! Loved to read aloud, loved to interact with the kids. Learned to "read" braille - though only by sight, not by feel. Now, I impress my grandchildren by "reading" the braille at elevator doors! In the senior play, (Mr. Vanderhiden's original) I shared the role of high priestess with another girl, named Cheryl, I believe. It was a hoot! Broke my right arm just before the play began (remember that, Jeff?) and had to play this sinister role with a green cast on my arm! College After high school, I attended Trinity College in Deerfield, Illinois, majoring in music. But I left after only one year (1969-1970). Then, in 1981, after marriage and three kids, I returned to college (Concordia in River Forest, Illinois). Four years later, I graduated with a degree in Natural Science, Chemistry and Biology with honors, (in SPITE of Mr. Sobol and his scare tactics! Ha!) In 1994-1995, I took courses at University of Northern Iowa toward an MBA.
