Steve's Story
Life
Currently living in Round Rock TX, just north of Austin.
I am married have three kids from a former marraige that have moved out of the house and are on their own. I have remarried and now have three more kids that my wife, Gloria and I adopted thru the Childrens Protective Services process. All three of these kids are so special in their own way.
College
I went to college for one year at New Mexico State Univ, but after my dad passed away during my freshman year, I transferred to Univ of California at Davis. I graduated with a BS in Electrical Engineering in 1970 and married my college sweetheart.
Workplace
After college, I went into the ARMY and spent three years serving most of the time in Sacramento and then South Korea. I loved the service but had to make a choice between my wife and kid or my job.
After I left the service, I went to work for Pacific Gas and Electric Company and had a very successful career there working in construction, engineering, operations and R&D. After twenty years there I left in 1996 as a result of the reregulation of the power industry...Expand for more

I then went to work for ENRON and helped get the energy markets set up and operational in CA. That work eventually led to a job in Houston and a big move for me. I watched the collapse of ENRON from a personal perspective and still remember that sad day when I left work for the last time. All I can say about this is that I hope the crooks that ran that company eventually get their due. They took many of my friends and myself thru a financial nightmare and have cast a pall on some of the brightest and most honest people I have ever met.
Well enough of that.
I had a temporary stop working for Honeywell and after some huge ups and downs, have found my current job working at ERCOT. We are the Electric Reliability Council of Texas and we run the electric grid for the state. I help set up and run the demand side management programs for ERCOT. These programs are the most successful in the US and I have so much pride in the value of what we do for the electric consumers in this state. It seems like after my experience with the CA markets and ENRON that I have finally found a home.
