Steve's Story

Life Hi I'm teaching and administrating in a secondary teacher preparation program at a small liberal arts college--Simpson College--south of Des Moines, IA. I'm married to mary Jones an artist, illustrator, and art professor. Between us we have four children. My older daughter is getting married in August, and my younger daughter will begin her senior year at the University of Puget Sound. I still write, both in my professional field and creatively. I won the Iowa Poetry Association contest recently...Expand for more
, and am on the central iowa coffee shop/small venue circuit as a reader. Once completed a three-year program for lay ministry in the methodist church, and I preach and serve locally on occasion. Now I attend the United Church of Christ, given the UCC's progressive stance on gays and human rights in general. Am still running and biking. Remember how funny it used to be watching old guys run? That's me know. So that's the good stuff. Like everyone else who visits this, a lot of water under the bridge.

LUNCH = Deli hamballs, homemade hashbrowns built from fresh yams and Vidalia onions, and tomatoes fresh from our garden after a short [20 mile] bike ride. Great way to re-enter the planet after RAGBRAI

Fellow Cheapoos--how many of you hoard the free cards/envelopes you get from non-profits wanting you to support a good cause, then use them from Xmas cards. I just hope I didn't send a "happy birthday" or "sorry for your
Am especially missing our four kids and one son-in-law today. Pictured here are "my" 2 daughters Sarah and Risa, and my son-in-law, DB. Caroline, Mary's daughter Caroline, and my son Shan are not pictured.
Here's most of the cover art for first self-published book of poetry. Now if only Blurb, the @#$&*&^ company that is supposedly helping me, can figure out how to overlay a jpeg on the beige background and have the backgrou

Miata sold. Good, but sigh . . .
OK, things are too complicated for old guys like me. I buy some new undies and they come with 2 labels, one in the back where it belongs, and the other sewed grotesquely on front. This leaves me: 1. having to figure out
