Steve's Story

I have three married daughters and one granddaughter. My new wife is great and I intend on keeping her happy. My high school electronics teacher told me that I would never do anything in electronics so I like to throw in the kitchen sink when saying what I have worked on. After high school I joined the Air Force and was sent to Avionics Tech school at Keesler AFB then to Davis-Monthan AFB as an Avionics Tech I worked on U-2, C-130, T-33, Hueys and about 12 other aircraft then worked on the remote guidance and beacons units on reconnaissance drones (UAV's). Later I was retrained to work on EC-121 Early Warning Radar planes. These were later replaced by AWACS. I left the Air Force as an Inflight Radar Technician, repairing the radar while the aircraft was inflight. That was one of the best jobs in the Air Force. ollowing the Soviets around the North Atlantic. My crew set the record for longest tracking time but had a requirement that if we went into the snack bar we had to put "Amazing Grace" played by bagpipes on the juke box. If we went in as a group one time was good but if we went in alone we each had to do it. Imagine hearing the juke box playing bagpipes 9 times in a row! No one but our crew knew what was going on. You tend to remember the fun and forget the crummy times. After the Air Force I worked on early versions of broadcast quality video tape editing systems, satellite time code systems and I.C. tester systems, the control computer for the Hubble Space telescope and Big Bird satellite, space shuttle, GPS satellite and MX missle, DSL modems before they were approved by the phone companies and one modem cost $4,000. I now am repairing military test equipment.
