Steve's Story
Life II, God's Miracle Blessing
Through the miracle of prayer, my spiritual journey and life has been renewed. After surgery, six chemotherapy treatments, and discovering the nutraceutical empowerment of adjunctive co-therapy with resveratrol, quercetin, curcumin, grape seed extract, and vitamin D3, I have achieved full remission from Stage IV, non-Hodgkins lymphoma. The power of prayer, deep friendships, and God's messenger, Dr. Thomas DeMeester, Chief of USC Surgery, my life has been restored for a new journey, serving others.
Total Body PETscans on 5/5/08 and 12/20/08 have confirmed fully resolved
remission. Reading all of the normal and resolved radiology reports was quite a deeply spirited Christmas message.
With humility and thankfulness, I am on a year sabbatical, writing my first book, "Resveratrol---The Fountain of Life." It reports on the important worldwide research being conducted on natural substances as co-therapies for cancer treatment. The last chapter, Survival Happens! addresses body-mind-soul interrelationships with our spiritual being. It is my story, of recovery to restoring grace, forgiveness, transformation, renewal, and all important "serving others."
God provides and sends us on spiritual journeys when we least expect them.
In October 2007, while completing training for the New York City Marathon, I experienced what I thought was over-training fatigue and developed a lymph node in my left neck. After a complete workup replete with biopsies, excisional surgery, CT scans, PET scans, and bone marrow biopsies, I was informed and advised that I had Stage IV Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. My team of doctors and colleagues confidentially informed me of a 5% survival rate. The first chemotherapy treatment Nov. 6th resulted in such extensive tumor necrosis that I developed a gastric fistula with internal bleeding that resulted in major surgery at USC University Hospital with the renowned surgeon, Dr. Thomas DeMeester, who saved my life. After 31 days hospitalization, transfusion of 18 units blood and 14 units plasma, I recovered sufficiently to complete the entire regimen of R-CHOP chemotherapy.
caringbridge.com/visit/drstephenjennings captures the incredible blessings of a warrior prayer nation of family, friends, patients, football booster club parents, and Calvary Chapel Church which changed my life forever!
Throughout this, I have progressed to a second-year law student at Irvine University College of Law. I have been honored to serve as the Student Bar Association President this year.
In my experience, the significance of serving others is so transcending to life, so life-spirit-giving, sustainable in meaning ,mentioned countless times in the Bible, that it represents the "11th Commandment" of being in the moment of a life well-lived, for God's purpose as we come to realize.
I recall when my bio of professional accomplishment was a driving force; now more of a roadmap of my life:
