Steven's Story

Steven is from Brockport, New York. Steven's schools include Appalachian State. Steven later attended Appalachian State University (Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics) . Steven works(ed) at Mitre Corporation, George Mason University. One of Steven's favorite quotes is:""No government has the right to decide on the truth of scientific principles, nor to prescribe in any way the character of the questions investigated. Neither may a government determine the aesthetic value of artistic creations, nor limit the forms of literacy or artistic expression. Nor should it pronounce on the validity of economic, historic, religious, or philosophical doctrines. Instead it has a duty to its citizens to maintain the freedom, to let those citizens contribute to the further adventure and the development of the human race." "To those who do not know mathematics it is difficult to get across a real feeling as to the beauty, the deepest beauty, of nature ... If you want to learn about nature, to appreciate nature, it is necessary to understand the language that she speaks in. " - Richard Feynman "I bet one legend that keeps recurring throughout history, in every culture, is the story of Popeye." - Jack Handey "I see it all perfectly; there are two possible situations — one can either do this or that. My honest opinion and my friendly advice is this: do it or do not do it — you will regret both." - Soren Kierkegaard ...Expand for more
"A classic is something that everybody praises and nobody has read." - Mark Twain "A black cat crossing your path signifies that the animal is going somewhere." - Groucho Marx "Tragedy is when I cut my finger. Comedy is when you walk into an open sewer and die." - Mel Brooks "To promote laughter without joining in it greatly heightens the effect." - Honore De Balzac "Mathematics, rightly viewed, possesses not only truth, but supreme beauty —a beauty cold and austere, like that of sculpture, without appeal to any part of our weaker nature, without the gorgeous trappings of painting or music, yet sublimely pure, and capable of a stern perfection such as only the greatest art can show. The true spirit of delight, the exaltation, the sense of being more than Man, which is the touchstone of the highest excellence, is to be found in mathematics as surely as poetry." - Bertrand Russell "In mathematics you don't understand things. You just get used to them." - John Von Neumann "Concerning all acts of initiative (and creation), there is one elementary truth, the ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans: that the moment one definitely commits oneself, then Providence moves too." - W.H. Murray".
