This brief autobiography is intended for information or so that some people from my past can perhaps ascertain if I am that Steven Jordan Brooks who may have crossed their path in the past.
I am a single gay man currently living in the Palm Springs area. I have never been married although I have had several long term relationships all with men. I retired to the Palm Springs area in 2007 due to health issues (mostly cardiac). I am originally from the Los Angeles area. My interests include music, arts, theater, travel, naturism and the outdoors i.e. camping, hiking. I have had what I consider three careers, first in the entertainment industry, as a musician, then working for recording artist producers and managers, second in the insurance industry as a bookkeeper and commercial lines underwriter and last as a school teacher. I have always been a musician and currently play in the Desert Winds Freedom Band and Opus 111 flute ensemble in the Palm Springs area.
I for many years have been active in the gay community and the naturist community. I have been a member of the Great American Freedom Band for many years until moving to Palm Springs where I am now a member of the Desert Winds Freedom Band. I have also been active in the naturist community and belong or have been and member of various nudists clubs and have attending various nude events. Other clubs I belong to or have belonged to are Great Outdoors both the Los Angeles and Palm Springs chapters, The Frontrunners and Walkers in Palm Springs, The Bears in both Los Angeles and Palm Springs as well as others.
TEACHING:
My last career was as a school teacher for Los Angeles Unified School District with my last assignment at Sherman Oaks Center for Enriched Studies in the San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles which lasted for 15 years. I taught English (mostly 5th grade honors/gifted) and drama. I was also in charge of the Gay Straight Alliance on the campus. Prior to that, I taught at Lauren Miller Elementary School in South Central Los Angeles where I taught various grades. I began teaching in 1989
INSURANCE:
My career before that was in the insurance industry. I worked at the Robert Arthur Agency as the bookkeeper and underwriter from approximately 1985 through 1987. MUSIC:
My career before 1985 revolved around the music industry. I worked for KoMoS productions for record producer Ken Scott from approximately 1978 ¿ 1985. We managed the group Missing Persons. I also worked with Ken Scott as his assistant. He is the producer of artists such as Kansas, Supertramp, Devo, The Tubes, Stanley Clarke, Dixie Dregs, Stanley Clarke, Billy Cobham to name just a few. Prior to Komos Productions I worked for BKM Personal Management which is a personal management office for entertainment industry artists headed by Barry Krost. I was there from approximately 1976 ¿ 1978. At the time some of the artists he represented included Cat Stevens, Tim Curry and academy award winner Peter Finch the actor to name just a few. I was a working musician prior to that playing in a number of bands in the Los Angeles area including Angel and Softi-oz. I played flute and sax, mostly but also can play the clarinet. I began playing in rock bands in high school in 1968 and through out my college years, finally making it a full time career in 1972. I played at numerous clubs, events and venues in the Los Angeles area for years.
SCHOOL:
I graduated California State University Northridge in 1987 with a Bachelors degree in Philosophy although I mostly attended college full time in the years 1969 through 1973. I returned to college part time in the 80¿s to finally get my degree. I continued to be active in music all through college playing in bands in night clubs and other events.
I attended and graduated from Simi Valley High School from the years 1966 through 1969 and was very active in music in the band and orchestra. I also began playing in rock bands at this time.
I attended Valley View Jr. High School and Center Jr. High School both in Simi Valley in 1963- 1966. I attended Reseda Elementary School prior to that.
RESIDENCES:
I was raised in Reseda, Ca in the San Fernando Valley section of Los Angeles until m family moved to Simi Valley, Ca. in 1963 and lived there until I graduated in 1969. I moved to Northridge in 1969 to attend college. I then moved to the South Bay area (Redondo Beach) to pursue my music career (aprox. 1973-1976). I lived in Hollywood and West Hollywood (approx 1976-1982) for many years until moving back to the San Fernando Valley (1982-2007). I lived at various locations in the San Fernando Valley including Chatsworth, Van Nuys, and Studio City.
