Steven's Story
I started my education in Inglewood CA, attending Centinela Elementary from kindergarten through third grades (1971-1974). I remember my kindergarten teacher, Mrs. Wagner, my first grade teacher, Mrs. Winslow, and my third grade teacher, Ms. McNeil. After briefly transferring to Torrance Elementary and Wilshire Elementary (May- Nov 1974) for the remainder of my third grade year, I returned to Centinela only to transfer to Belvedere Elementary in Feb 1975, in East Los Angeles, for the remainder of my third through fifth grade years. I left California in March 1977 and enrolled at Friendship Elementary School, Friendship ME, and then attended AD Gray and Union Jr High schools through 8th grade (1977-1980), then attended Medom...Expand for more
ak Valley High School (1980-1984), graduating in the class of 1984. After high school, I attended Thomas College for a couple of years before leaving to return to the working field, working in retail and construction. Upon learning that I was going to be a dad in 1989, I enlisted in the Coast Guard and have continued to serve since then. I've been stationed in Portsmouth VA, Boston MA, Portland ME, Key West FL, Yorktown VA, Charleston SC, and now, as I await a possible medical retirement, Newport RI. **Update** I retired from the Coast Guard in April 2016, and am now working with FEMA. I am the father of two girls, Salina and Alicia, and grandfather to six: , Addison, Destinee, Sydne, Harper (d. 2016), Theo, and Georgianna.
